Position Overview:
We seek a highly motivated and experienced terminal operations supervisor (TOS) to ensure the efficient and effective management of our transportation terminal . As the TOS, you will lead, oversee, and direct “over-the-road” (OTR) dispatching and customer service activities, such as routing, tracking, and scheduling vehicles. You will supervise all terminal activities, including dispatching, freight management, process improvement, demand planning, profit loss analysis, 3PL management, supplier sourcing, and system implementation.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the terminal, ensuring smooth and efficient workflow.
- Monitor and direct all dispatching activities, including tracking, routing, and dispatching vehicles.
- Manage freight operations, including scheduling, tracking, and resolving issues.
- Implement process improvement initiatives to optimize terminal efficiency and productivity.
- Collaborate with demand planning teams to ensure accurate forecasting and inventory management.
- Analyze profit loss statements and develop strategies to improve profitability.
- Manage relationships with third-party logistics (3PL) providers and suppliers.
- Source new suppliers and negotiate favorable terms for procurement.
- Implement and maintain systems for tracking shipments, inventory, and other relevant data.
- Conduct ongoing safety audits, meet with individual staff members, attend company safety meetings, and participate in or direct other work activities to promote work safety and encourage continuing education among staff members.
- Ensure staff members fully and consistently comply with safety rules, administrative procedures and policies, environmental policies, union contracts, and government regulations.
- Initiate and direct investigations to resolve shipper or customer complaints and verify their authenticity and accuracy.
- Establish and conduct monthly, quarterly, or annual employee training sessions on various subjects, including quality improvement, hazardous material handling, computer use, and employee orientation.
Requirements:
- Excellent communication skills in English and Spanish (speaking, reading, writing).
- Proven experience in terminal or logistics management
- This position may require travel to other facilities but no more than 10% of the time.
- Experience in managing relationships with 3PL providers and suppliers.
- Familiarity with sourcing suppliers and negotiating procurement terms.
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills
- Strong problem-solving abilities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, logistics, or related field preferred
