Description:
Haik Humble Eye Center seeks a motivated and team-oriented full time surgical technologist in the Surgery Center of West Monroe. Experience in surgical assisting is preferred but not required. On the job training will be provided. Candidates must possess the desire to work in a surgery department with patient populations ranging from pediatric to geriatric. Candidates are not required to be certified.
Responsibilities:
- Decision making concerning equipment and/or instrumentation sterilization
- Bio hazardous waste disposal
- Patient care and patient flow
- Creates a safe environment in which surgery may take place
- Uses medical equipment in a safe manner
- Implements principles of medical and surgical asepsis in accordance with recognized national standards and center specific policies and procedures
- Provides physical safety for the patient
- Accounts for sponges, needles, instruments, and other potential foreign bodies
- Assists surgeon in scrubbed cases
- Pulls supplies for upcoming cases
- Demonstrates cooperative work attitude towards and with coworkers, employees, management, patients, visitors and physicians
- Maintains a safe work environment in compliance with OSHA guidelines and infection control standards
- Demonstrates knowledge of Instrument Processing from decontamination to storage of sterile packages.
- Checks room for cleanliness, availability of supplies and equipment for all assigned cases
- Utilizes surgeon preference card to select packs, supplies and instruments
- Maintains proper sterile technique when gowning and gloving surgeon and draping patient
- Puts unused sterile supplies and instruments away at the end of the day
- Adheres to attendance, punctuality, meal and break time period policies
- Carries out assigned duties in an effective, productive, and efficient manner
- Willingness to adjust personal schedule periodically as workload fluctuates and as department needs require
- Functions as a team member following the rules of engagement of the department and hospital
- Adheres to strictest confidentiality in dealing with patients, families, personnel, and the public
- Reports unsafe situations to supervisor
Requirements:
- Surgical tech experience is preferred but not required. Experience with eye surgery will be strongly preferred.
- Basic knowledge of microorganisms, universal infection control standards, and the ability to work with human tissue or bodily fluids
- Must be able to focus on attention to detail and concentrate in a stressful environment in order to meet demands for instruments, equipment, and supplies
- Standing or walking for long periods of time
- Ability to work a flexible schedule: must be able to adjust schedule to the needs of the clinic; including early mornings and evenings later than 5pm. (Monday through Friday only)
