A growing music school is looking to add several PIANO instructors who can also teach another instrument (guitar, ukulele, voice, violin). This is a part time position that will grow over time, with the goal of filling in hours for an existing teaching or work schedule.
We are primarily interested in hiring teachers for in-home lessons. Ability to teach remotely is a plus.
Qualified teachers that can teach piano and another instrument in the following areas will be immediately considered. Specific areas where lessons are taught are Santa Monica, Marina Del Rey, Culver City, Manhattan Beach, South Bay, Mid-City, Venice, West Hollywood, Playa Del Rey, South LA, Inglewood, Torrance, Palos Verdes, Valley Communities, Mid-City, etc. Lessons are 30, 45 or 60 minutes depending on the student’s age and level.
No specific teaching method is required, however a willingness to be flexible and creative is a must. Lessons are taught to students of all ages and abilities so teachers need to be comfortable working with students from ages 4 through adult, beginning to intermediate. Also a willingness to teach music in a variety of styles, and the ability to teach music theory, ear training, and sight-reading skills are all encouraged and welcome.
Specific Requirements:
- At least a BA in music from a University with an emphasis in piano performance or comparable concentration. (Composition, Musicology, Music History, etc.) If concentration is other than piano performance, must have at least intermediate playing ability. Additional instruments are a big plus especially guitar, ukulele, voice or strings.
- At least 2 years of teaching in a variety of settings (group piano, private students, etc.)
- A reliable car with current and valid insurance.
- A good knowledge of the Los Angeles area, also ability to use GPS is extremely helpful. (LA is crazy!!)
- Punctuality – It’s LA, we all know how bad the traffic is, but repetitive tardiness will not be tolerated.
- Reliability and consistency. This is not a position for someone that plans on canceling or rescheduling their lesson appointments frequently.
- Appropriate dress, professionalism and courtesy given to students and parents.
- Must be good with children and adults of varying ages and abilities.
The school will handle billing and invoicing, scheduling and cancellations. Teachers will be paid for late cancel, no-shows and are not expected to make up time for students showing up late to their lessons. Please note, this is not an Independent Contractor position. This is an employee position with unemployment, worker's compensation, sick pay and mileage reimbursement.
How To Apply:
Please email a resume and a short note in the body of the email introducing yourself, what neighborhood you live in and how many miles you are willing to drive to teach lessons. APPLICATIONS WITHOUT INTRODUCTIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. Also, if possible, please include current availability.
COVID-19 considerations:
