Job Summary
The Communications Director will effectively market and communicate initiatives and programs through various communication vehicles, including web, social media, and PR initiatives. The role will also serve as the main driver and event manager for three annual key events and the planning for a 9 month leadership program. This person should be a strong team-player and be able to develop strong connections with media outlets to effectively communicate and promote initiatives and programs.
Job Role
This position will report to the CEO & COO and partner closely with the leadership curriculum committee and an outsourced events coordination vendor. The role will also be the main POC for all PR and Communications deliverables, providing oversight and execution of communication for senior leadership (i.e. talking points, official statements). Finally, this role will manage a communications intern.
Main responsibilities:
60% Internal/External Communications
- Ensure all external communications are developed and delivered in a timely and quality manner.
- Responsible for relevancy, maintenance and content development/content revision of the organization's website.
- Establish and foster strong connections with local, regional and statewide media outlets to effectively promote news-worthy information and advertising.
- Interface with staff members to promote a consistent branding and value-added message in all external communications.
- Work directly with the CEO and COO in the development of external messaging to ensure concise and timely information is made available to current and future members.
- Ensure that branding and look is consistent in all collateral and internet pages.
- Oversee marketing and communication efforts of staff.
40% Event Management and Programming
- Oversee and execute planning and implementation of signature events.
- Work directly with the CEO, COO and respective, assigned Committees in the development of programs and processes.
- Collaborate with external vendors for events, special programs, communications, etc.
- Oversight and execution of leadership programs.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prior experience targeting relevant market.
- Prior experience in non profit setting.
- Prior experience as an entrepreneur.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, business or related field
- Media experience and work closely with local, regional and state media outlets and contacts.
- Prior experience sourcing/managing interns.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish, with the ability to effectively communicate and engage with diverse communities.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- 4 years of work experience building communications, marketing, and/or business expertise if no college degree.
- 5 years of internal/external communications, partnership development and/or fundraising experience separate from education/tech skill building experience.
- Strong presentation skills and abilities.
- Demonstrable strong verbal and writing skills (link to website, portfolio, prior work samples, etc).
- Ability to manage multiple projects.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat, and Social Media web platforms.
- Strong knowledge and experience with website management concepts.
- Exemplary leadership skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Relatively prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or phone calls.
- Evenings weekends availability to support key events and programming.
- Some travel may be required.
