Alamitos Bay Yacht Club (“Club”) is a not-for-profit 501C7 social
club founded in 1924. The Club has a maximum membership of
421 regular members with annual revenue of $1.1 million. The
The club prides itself on its premier sailboat race management
program, strong adult and junior sailing programs, social
programs as well as a galley that is open 7 days a week during
peak season and weekends in the off season. The bar runs a
regular Friday night happy hour.
The Accountant directly reports to the Club manager and is a
dotted line report to the volunteer treasurer. The Accountant is
responsible for all accounting and financial reporting aspects of
the Club operation, including accounts receivable, accounts
payable, payroll, month-end close, financial statement and budget
preparation
Duties:
Manage the financial aspects of the club member accounting
system which is currently Clubspot and administers the
billing and collection of dues from its membership.
Manage the accurate and timely preparation of the Club’s
financial statements currently in the Quickbooks system.
Create financial reports and recommendations for Club
leadership, officers and directors, and committee
chairpersons.
Perform monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts
Prepare monthly journal entries
Allocate costs and revenue to the various sailing events and
programs
Analyze and proactively problem-solve in collaboration with
the Club leadership, officers and directors, and committee
chairpersons
Prepare annual budget with the treasurer
Manage member billings and payments; follow up on aged
accounts receivables
Prepare payroll submission to ADP our payroll processor
Manage accounts payable and related monthly expense
accruals; prepare payments to vendors utilizing the most
effective payment mechanism and positive pay for check
payments
Oversee sales tax reporting
Oversee payroll tax reporting by ADP
Assist with oversight of the Clubs insurance programs for
liability insurance, property insurance, programs and health
insurance
Manage the yard ensuring boats are tagged and members
are billed for their storage. Facilitate billing for non-member
boats in the yard.
Facilitate annual Form 990 tax filing and other tax-related
annual filings (ex: annual forms 1099) with the outside
accounting firm.
Skills and Abilities:
Analytical skills to critically evaluate information gathered
from multiple sources
Proficient in Excel and Microsoft products including the ability to
do pivot tables, proficiency in general ledger accounting
software and ability to learn additional software systems
such as the member accounting system
Good communication skills (verbal and written)
Results-oriented, self-motivated and proactive requiring
minimal supervision
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in accounting or business
4 years experience as an accountant (experience in all
aspects of accounting and financial reporting)
Highly skilled in MS Office 365 with a focus on Excel, Word
and Powerpoint
Knowledge and experience with various payment channels
(i.e. venmo, zelle, paypal)
Skilled in use of Quickbooks accounting software
Knowledge and experience in accounting for “Membership
Clubs”
Knowledge of Fund accounting
Flexible with daily work schedule, non remote
Physical Demands:
Ability to lift ten pounds and sit for extended periods in front
of a computer
