Position Responsibilities
The Medical Director represents the medical leadership for Transitions Counseling and Mentoring staff, patients, and the community. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide direct patient care for all clients needing assessment and admission into the program.
- Provide health screening, detoxification, medication management and medical treatment to all residents.
- Hold regular documented meetings with center Chief Executive Officer and Nursing Staff to discuss systems/patient flow quality, improvement in scheduling, and patient and physician relationships.
- Provide regular review of the latest CARF and Maryland Licensing standard policies, procedures, and medical protocols regarding patient care.
- In conjunction with the Chief Executive Officer provides guidance to residential treatment program services to include policies, nursing services, quality improvement monitoring, infection control/universal precautions and staff education.
- Orient new nursing staff and monitoring their ongoing compliance with policies and procedures.
- Coordinate nursing scheduling to ensure efficiency and maximum productivity
- Responsible for receiving, investigating, and settling in conjunction with the Chief Executive Officer and Nurse Supervisor all grievances or questions of policy concerning medical treatment.
- Review, investigate, manage, and report all complaints concerning physician relations from patients, nursing staff, or administration. Appropriate complaint disposition will include reporting in writing to Chief Executive Officer.
- Provide clinical/medical leadership and overall supervision to all nursing staff assigned to the center.
- Intercede in and provide counseling, re-training, direction, and discipline to medical/nursing staff regarding medical protocol.
- Regularly attend treatment team meetings, giving input for the updates in weekly goals and progress of clients.
- Work closely with the Chief Executive Officer to achieve the treatment center’s goals for positive treatment outcomes
- Interact closely with administration to develop goals and provide ongoing assessment to achieve objectives, in keeping with treatment center’s program goals.
- Work cooperatively and supportively with the center’s administrative, nursing staff, and other physicians to ensure services are available and that the services are clinically effective, meeting quality and regulatory guidelines.
- Complete the following reports on time: Medical Evaluation, History and Physicals, Psychiatric Evaluation, Health Screenings, Monitoring of Medication, Performance Improvement, Discharge Summary and Complaint reports.
- Participate in corporation's Board of director’s meetings when requested.
- Conduct ongoing monitoring of compliance with center’s Universal Precautions and Infection Control standards.
- Interact with the center’s clinical and medical staff and specialists to ensure appropriate and timely patient care, patient transfers, and patient referrals.
- Interact closely with administration to develop goals and ongoing assessment of achieving objectives.
- Work cooperatively and supportively with therapeutic team to ensure availability and effective use of services and results reporting.
- Assist with development and maintenance of continuous quality improvement programs, ensuring:
- monitoring and supporting medical quality improvement plan and peer review processes,
- continuous monitoring and assurance of compliance of nursing quality of care/safety programs, and
- completion of quarterly quality assurance/safety provider performance reviews.
- Assist the process in ensuring that Transitions Counseling and Mentoring Services achieves/passes/meets and maintains Maryland State Licensing requirements, CARF, managed care and other accreditations.
- Assist Clinical Director in the development, coordination, and completion of educational programs for providers, staff, patients, and community.
- Oversee compliance with managed care requirements, including timely and appropriate Physician to Physician reviews, reviews with Utilization Review Staff, medication formulary utilization, detox protocol, treatment planning and interventions and referrals for aftercare and outside providers.
- Other duties as assigned.
Employment Standards
Education: M.D. from accredited University or Medical School
Completion of Residency Program
Experience: • Three years of experience in addictions and/or mental health
and extensive training and/or experience in hospital or center

Pay: $81,199.00 - $158,693.00 per year
