Our schools provide children ages 3M-5Y with the cognitive, emotional, and physical foundations they will carry into adulthood. Inspired by the Reggio Emilia pedagody, we believe in children's ability to construct their own knowledge through in-depth investigation and research. Big & Tiny aims to help children develop a sense of self, curiosity, and self-esteem.
Applicants must have at least 2 years of teaching experience, a working knowledge of child development, the ability to work cooperatively and independently, with a commitment to personal growth. Holds or working towards a Master’s degree in education preferred.
As a Big & Tiny Lead Teacher your responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Guide infants and toddlers through intentional education and developmentally appropriate enriching experiences.
- Display a patient and calm personality coupled with a nurturing approach to every child.
- Contribute positively to the behavior and social interaction of the children.
- Build secure relationships with each child by speaking to the children using the principles of respect, responsibility and community.
- Work closely with a co-teacher and the Educational Director to prioritize safety and social-emotional learning in all situations while also adhering to all DOHMH guidelines.
- Feed, change diapers, monitor rest as needed.
- Maintain open, consistent and effective communication with parents, including assistance and support and reporting any accidents, illnesses as needed.
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences to discuss their child’s strengths and any areas of concern in their development.
- Document daily activities (rest, bathroom, meals, etc.) and share regularly with families.
Meet annual Professional Development requirements per New York Dept. of Health and Mental Hygiene regulations and continuous learning opportunities through Big & Tiny; such as daily reflections, readings, in-school workshops and conversations.
- Develop and implement Reggio inspired curriculum using documentation and observation to inform practice.
- Maintain a classroom by managing supplies/materials and cleaning surfaces daily.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field of study with at least 6 credits in Infant Care. Masters degree in ECE is a plus
- Minimum of two years of lead teacher classroom experience with at least one year working with infants and toddlers
- Minimum of a year classroom experience in a Reggio Emilia school
- A passion for working with children
- Patient, nurturing and thoughtful. Ability to care for and nurture infants in all settings.
- Understanding of the developmental needs of young children.
- Fully engage in physical activities with children by kneeling, stooping, sitting on the floor, standing for a long time, and dynamically moving in/leading group activities (i.e. jump, dance, walk).
- Must see/hear well enough to monitor the classroom to always keep children safe.
- Good communication skills.
- Maintain discretion around children’s records.
- Certified in Infant/Child First-Aid/CPR or willingness to become certified.
- Complete background check and health examination.
- Fully vaccinated for Covid-19.
- Speaks multiple languages is a plus.
Job Type: Full time, 40 hours a week.
Salary: Varies depending on education and experience in the field of Child Care & Early Childhood Education.
