Job Description
Role Overview:
As a Civil Engineering Student Intern, you will gain valuable experience by working alongside our expert engineers. You will participate in real-world projects, contributing to design and construction processes, while developing your skills in various civil engineering disciplines.
Key Responsibilities:
•
Design and Drafting: Assist in the development of engineering designs and drawings using software such as MicroStation and Bluebeam.
•
Field and Laboratory Work: Shadow experienced engineers on construction sites and in the laboratory, observing and assisting with geotechnical investigations, materials testing, and inspection processes.
•
Survey Data Analysis: Help analyze survey reports and site data to support the design and planning of infrastructure projects.
•
Construction Inspection: Participate in the inspection of construction sites to ensure compliance with MDOT Specifications, engineering plans, and Construction Standards.
•
Material Testing: Conduct performance tests on construction materials such as Concrete, HMA, aggregates and soils to verify compliance with MDOT regulations, including field testing using the nuclear Density Gauge.
•
Cost Estimation: Assist in estimating costs for the repair and maintenance of bridges.
What You Will Learn:
Geotechnical Engineering:
•
Understanding soil mechanics and foundation engineering.
•
Performing soil sampling and testing.
MOT (Maintenance of Traffic) Design:
•
Developing traffic control plans for construction projects.
•
Ensuring safety and efficiency in work zones.
ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) Design:
•
Conducting site assessments to evaluate ITS devices.
•
Creating CAD drawings and engineering layouts for ITS infrastructure.
•
Collecting and analyzing data for ITS projects.
Construction Engineering Inspection and Testing:
•
Inspecting roadway and bridge construction, including concrete patching, joint sealing, and soil erosion control.
•
Performing QA checks on plan sheets and specifications.
•
Assisting with daily inspection tasks and documentation.
•
Performing inspections of concrete and asphalt placement, pavement markings, and structural components.
•
Assisting with safety inspections for various bridges in the Metro Region.
Education and Qualifications:
•
Current Enrollment: Pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Construction, Project Management, or a related field.
•
Technical Skills: Basic to intermediate knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, and other engineering software. Basic understanding of civil engineering concepts.
•
Soft Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal abilities; team collaboration experience.
•
License: Valid Driver’s License (required).
•

Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
