As a Sr. Project Engineer specializing in the development of both conventional and hybrid powertrains, you will be responsible for coordination the collection and formal release of calibrations for embedded electronic control units for the product development community collecting input from various teams including base engine controls, aftertreatment controls, hybrid controls or on-board diagnostic (OBD) systems. Additionally, you will be responsible for collecting appropriate documentation for structured releases and comparing variants to validate content from the various contributors. General engine and hybrid powertrain controls and calibration knowledge is essential to be able to recognize important content and efficiently integrated changes. Working with highly motivated individuals from across the globe on a variety of engines, vehicles and markets, the Sr. Project Engineer will be able to increase their scope of experience with technology used across the globe. This Sr. Project Engineer position requires a highly motivated individual with an eagerness to learn and make a positive contribution.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead the collection and coordination of embedded control system calibration content and documentation including validation using comparisons to similar products and when available prior model years.
- Collaboration with control software and calibration development team to identify and confirm appropriate content and document their collection in a single dataset.
- Plan, coordinate and execute the testing of engines, aftertreatment systems, powertrain systems and OBD systems on engine/chassis dynamometer or in application to validate a release.
- Calibration and validation of electronic control unit parameters to satisfy program objectives.
- Summarize findings and prepare presentations/reports for internal and customer review.
· May involve work onsite at customer facilities, vehicle test trips to support ongoing development programs.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Automotive Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering or related field, Masters preferred
- 3+ years of experience in engine, vehicle and/or powertrain testing
- Experience with calibration release software (i.e. CFX, CRETA, Powercal, vCDM, Calbert, etc.); or demonstrated experience with calibration release process
- Knowledge of SI and CI combustion processes
- Knowledge of aftertreatment systems
- Experience in calibration of base emissions control strategies to fulfill customer and regulatory requirements or experience in calibration and implementation of OBD strategies meeting CARB regulations
- Understanding of base engine, aftertreatment and/or hybrid electronic control system strategies, knowledge on software logic implementation and control system functionality
- Experience using commercially available calibration and development tools (i.e., ETAS INCA, ATI Vision, Vector CANape/CANalyzer, Matlab/Simulink)
- Professional communication skills (oral and written English)
- Must be a motivated team player to perform in fast paced development environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of hybrid powertrain systems
- Knowledge of control strategies employed on Bosch and/or GPEC controllers
- Strong understanding of US emission regulations and certification test procedures for Gas, Diesel and/or Hybrid systems
- Understanding of US OBD regulations and monitoring approaches
- Hands-on experience with engine hardware – engine assembly or rebuilding
- US citizen or Permanent Residence a plus
