We are looking for qualified, Self-Motivated Diesel Mechanics in northern New Jersey to join our team at Garden State Fleet Services! Looking for Diesel Technicians who want more than just hourly wage and take pride in quality work.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and repair truck and trailer maintenance problems as necessary
- Perform preventative maintenance inspections on all equipment, including but not limited to, inspections of all tractors and trailers
- Ensure that all parts and labor are accurately charged Install heavy components (starters, clutches, brake drums, etc.) of CMVs’ using hydraulics jacks or hoist
- Rebuild & over hall Class 3 to 8 engines and transmissions
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to operate a computer and diagnostic equipment
- Able to sit, stand, kneel, bend over, crouch, walk, lift, and reach for a full day.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment in accordance to OSHA & client standards
- Possess a do whatever it takes attitude

Our Diesel Mechanics understand that if a customer's truck isn't moving, they aren't making money.
They work diligently to get these Fleet vehicles back on the road all while sharpening and expanding their mechanical skills.
The Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance and repair of tractors and trailers. Perform DOT inspections to ensure equipment meets regulatory requirements. The Mechanic will be responsible for providing quality workmanship in a timely manner. The Mechanic must be able to communicate with customers, other employees.
Applicant must possess the highest level of honesty and integrity, diagnose and repair all makes and models class 3 to 8 trucks to include Freightliner Kenworth, International, Volvo, Hino, Ford, Dodge &
GMC at shop or customer’s location. A minimum of 3-6 years’ experience working on heavy equipment or equivalent required. Must have excellent communication skills, maintain good customer relationships, possess a valid driver’s license (ability to obtain Class A CDL) self-motivated and able to work without direct supervision. Applicant must have own tools, clean driving record, no DWI or DUI’s and pass full back ground check and drug screen prior to employment.
Compensation
$20.00-$38.00/hour; $42,000-$76,000 salary based upon previous experience and training.

Required Skills and Education
- A minimum of 3-years’ experience (5+ years preferred) working on heavy equipment or equivalent required.
- Additional Experience as a Diesel Mechanic, Diesel Technician, Heavy Equipment Mechanic, or Diesel Fleet Mechanic is a plus
- HS Diploma
- Preferred 2 year technical school for Diesel Mechanic's (Will substitute experience)
- Preferred *ASE certification (Will substitute experience)
- DOT inspections * OSHA Compliance in the shop
- Strong Electrical and Hydraulic background required. Ability to read electrical schematics
- Excellent communication skills
- Clean driving record
- Possess a valid driver’s license (able to obtain class A CDL)
- Must be self-motivated and able to work without direct supervision.
- Applicant must have own tools related to work requirements
- Must be able to multi-task, be very organized and able to work with minimal supervision
- Must have good written and verbal communication skills
- Willing to attend workshops and continuing education classes/programs
- Welding (preferred)
- Provide References
