What will you do?
As a Fractional Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in our San Diego office, you will provide strategic financial leadership on a part-time basis. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned finance leader and strategic thinker with the ability to contribute significantly to the strategy formation and execution of the company.
Essential Job Functions:
- Strategist and Thought Leader
- Serve as a finance thought leader within the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), offering a strong strategic perspective with a finance tilt.
- Actively contribute to the development and deployment of the company’s strategy, ensuring financial considerations are at the forefront.
- Formulate informed and defendable viewpoints on financial matters and effectively persuade others when necessary.
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of the business's value creation processes.
- Communicate effectively and in a timely manner, providing early notification of issues along with recommendations for improvement.
- Partner to CEO
- Function as a top confidant and thought partner to the CEO, providing candid insights and being comfortable with challenging the CEO in appropriate settings.
- Strive for alignment with topics discussed with the board and in public settings, ensuring a unified front.
- Finance Team Leadership
- Identify and develop key finance talent within the organization, including a potential successor.
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with key partners, including SLT members, board members, external partners, and team members.
- Cultivate a forward-thinking finance team culture that values future insights and the "story" behind the numbers more than historical reporting.
- Display agility in forecasting and providing new insights to meet the changing needs of the business.
- Oversee operational finance, ensuring focus on areas that require attention and maintaining transparency with no surprises.
- Prioritize the financial performance of the enterprise over individual functions, upholding a high standard of execution.
- Strive for a financial close within 5 days and consistently challenge the status quo in activities and expenditures.
- Lead the optimization and automation of routine financial processes to increase efficiency.

Location
Position is based in San Diego, CA with a hybrid schedule.
What are we looking for?
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or related discipline. MBA a plus.
- Strong strategic leadership abilities with a distinct finance-oriented perspective.
- Excellent communication and persuasion skills, with the ability to form and articulate defendable viewpoints.
- A comprehensive understanding of value creation within the business context.
- Demonstrated ability to act as a trusted advisor to C-level executives, especially the CEO.
- Experience in developing finance talent and building high-performing teams.
- Strong relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders.
- An agile mindset with the capacity to provide insights that anticipate business needs.
- Commitment to transparency, timely communication, and early issue identification and resolution.
- Exceptional execution standards with a focus on enterprise-wide financial performance.
- Familiarity with financial automation tools and process optimization.
- Must be a US Person (US Citizen or US Permanent Resident).

Compensation and Benefits
Chief Financial Officer pay range: $201,169 – $335,282*
- This range represents base pay for a full-time employee. In addition, you may be eligible for additional benefits and compensation.
