Job Overview:
We are seeking a smart and passionate tutor/1:1 to work with our daughter who has special needs and will be entering the 9th grade in the fall. The ideal candidate will have a solid educational background, and an ability to work with children with differences. While experience in special needs education is a plus, we are open to people with other backgrounds who are creative and interested in creating a close working collaboration with our daughter and can understand how our daughter learns. Our daughter is very sociable, interested in learning, and capable of doing good academic work with support. She has difficulty with social and motor skills, coordination, and executive functioning skills. She attends a small private school for children with differences. The position would include being both a personal tutor for part of the day at school (and ideally at home during school breaks) and her 1:1 for group learning. We live in Lower Merion PA and her school is in Riverton, NJ. Ability to provide transportation to and from school is a plus, but not required. We cover time, gas and mileage for driving.
We are looking for someone who is flexible, creative and a self starter, who can come up with interesting academic projects and develop a strong rapport with our daughter, as well as work with the staff at the school. We appreciate someone who thinks outside of the box, and can partner with us in creating the best educational experience possible for our daughter.
Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one learning during the school day in Riverton, NJ and ideally at home in Lower Merion, PA during school breaks.
-Provide 1:1 support during the school day while in group learning classrooms, including collaborating with her other teachers and helping navigate the school environment.
- Create engaging and interactive lesson plans, incorporating a range of teaching strategies and materials.
- Develop and implement curriculum materials, ensuring they align with our daughter’s interests and abilities.
- Foster a supportive learning environment, reinforcing social skills across all school activities.
- Communicate regularly with parents, caregivers and the school, keeping them informed of student progress and any concerns or issues that arise.
- Collaborate with other educators and professionals to ensure a comprehensive and effective educational experience.
Experience:
- Proven experience in a teaching or tutoring role.
- Strong background in curriculum development and lesson planning preferred but not required.
Skills:

-Ability to develop engaging and interactive lesson plans, incorporating a range of teaching strategies and materials and to use our daughter’s personal interests as platforms for teaching new skills.

Pay: $20.00 - $40.00 per hour
