Athlon Advisors is an independent investment management and strategic advisory firm. We help manage every aspect of our client’s financial life, guiding them throughout the process and then partnering with them to help them make well-informed financial decisions. We are seeking a professional, energetic and detail-oriented Tax Preparer to join our strategic Tax Planning, Preparation and Compliance business unit in our Columbia, MD office. This position is a client-facing position where you will be representing the firm by dealing directly with our clients. The position is designed to allow for rewarding career growth and opportunities for accelerated advancement into a Tax Manager position leading our tax team and then upward for possible partner consideration.
Salary and Benefits
- Salary will be $75,000 - $95,000 based on experience.

Duties of the Tax Associate/Tax Accountant include:
- Plan and prepare state and federal returns for individuals, companies and entities.
- Assist our clients in reaching their goals through tax planning and projections.
- Research the implications of tax laws and advise clients on tax related issues.
- Plan, direct and execute various tax projects.
- Perform research on technical tax issues.
- Manage, develop, and mentor staff on tax related projects.
- Oversee complex tax research projects for clients in diverse industries.
- Handle communications with various governing entities.
Requirements:
- Must have experience in preparing tax returns for individuals with Schedule C’s, Schedule E’s, etc.
- Experience with corporate and entity returns; 1120, 1120-s, 1041, and 990s a plus.
- CPA or EA designation a strong plus with compensation commensurate
- Experience researching, interpreting, and filing taxes is a must.
- Desire to be part of an innovative financial planning firm and a member of a strong team.
- Possess a sincere desire to help clients with their tax planning needs.
- Must have excellent oral and writing skills.
- Must be detail oriented, enjoy problem solving and have a strong willingness to follow through on your commitments.
- Ability to demonstrate character, competence, empathy and compassion with clients and employees.
- A desire for continuous learning.
The Process
