Position Title: Legal Assistant (T-Visa) FLSA: Non-Exempt
Position Summary
The Legal Assistant will be responsible for providing crucial support to our attorney(s) and paralegal(s) in handling T-Visa applications for victims of human trafficking. This role involves assisting with case management, client communication, document preparation, research, and other administrative tasks related to T-Visa applications. Typically, the Legal Assistant reports to a Paralegal.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Perform accurate legal research and analysis. Assist attorneys in managing a caseload of T-Visa applications. Compile, proofread, and revise drafts of legal documents and reports.
Communicate with clients to gather necessary information, provide updates on case progress, and address inquiries.
Conduct legal research on T-Visa eligibility requirements, precedents, and relevant laws and regulations.
Assist in gathering and organizing evidence to support T-Visa applications, such as police reports, medical records, and witness statements.
Maintain and update databases and tracking systems.
Provide translation services as needed for clients who require assistance in languages other than English.Handle administrative tasks related to T-Visa cases, including scheduling appointments, maintaining case files, and managing correspondence.
Collaborate closely with attorneys, other legal assistants, and external partners involved in T-Visa cases.
Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards in handling T-Visa cases.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills/Abilities
● Bilingual (Spanish) written/oral. Fluency is mandatory.
● Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
● Word processing skills include, but are not limited to data entry and typing.
● Excellent research and time management skills.
● Detail Oriented
● Able to exercise good judgment
● Ability to maintain confidentiality
● Familiarity with key legal principles
● Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
● High level of MS Office Suite/Google Suite, including Word, Excel, Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc.

Education/Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate Degree or equivalent related experience preferred, especially in roles such as legal assistant or similar, with a focus on immigration law and T-Visa cases.
- Familiarity with T-Visa eligibility criteria, application procedures, and relevant immigration laws and regulations is preferred but not required.
