POSITION DESCRIPTION
Title: Assistant Controller Reports to: Corporate Controller
FLSA: Salaried Exempt
General Overview:
The Assistant Controller supports the Corporate Controller in managing the organization's accounting functions. This role involves supervising accounting operations, including monthly and yearly closings, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform month-end and year-end close procedures, including preparing journal entries and reviewing the work of others.
- Manage accounting staff (currently two professional team members).
- Maintain ERP setup and configuration to ensure accurate data capture and proper posting to the general ledger.
- Oversee the account reconciliation process and take appropriate actions to clear reconciling items promptly.
- Prepare monthly financial statements for assigned entities and assist in preparing consolidated financial results.
- Streamline existing processes and procedures, emphasizing continuous improvement and the development of internal controls.
- Conduct periodic internal operational audit projects and assist external accounting firms with financial audits and corporate tax return preparation.
- Assist in the credit review process of new customers and ensure compliance with sales and use tax regulations.
- Aid in developing annual operating and capital budgets; monitor and report on compliance and variances.
- Develop reports and analyses to assist management with measuring and predicting financial performance.
- Communicate regularly with the Corporate Controller regarding all accounting operations and ongoing projects.
- Perform other responsibilities as needed.
Physical / Environmental Requirements:
- Ability to operate and use general office equipment, including a PC.
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods.
Education / Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
- MBA and/or CPA preferred.
- 4+ years of financial management experience or proven experience in a similar financial role.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Ability and willingness to take a leadership role on complex projects while overseeing the accounting department's daily responsibilities.
- Proven ability to develop a team.
- Highly skilled in spreadsheet modeling, ERP systems, and relational databases, preferably MS SQL Server and SSRS.
- Advanced Excel skills, including complex functions such as Index, Match, Address, Indirect, Arrays, etc.
- VBA coding experience is a plus but not required.
- Experience with business intelligence software and OLAP cube models is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills, the ability to exercise sound judgment, and the ability to make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis.
- High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency.
- Absolute dedication to detail with a commitment to quality.
- Proven track record of improving processes and procedures.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
