POSITION SUMMARY
Fountain House’s housing program provides a sense of safety and stability, ensuring that members (individuals living with mental illness(es): remain housed; establish a safe space for recovery; develop independent living skills; increase their self-sufficiency and build a strong foundation from which they can achieve their life goals.
Our Residential Aides (RA) provide exemplary care and support to our member residents. We strive to create a safe, caring, and collaborative community where our members will thrive and achieve their goals by providing support to members' daily lives. The Residential Aide at Amsterdam Residence is responsible for the safety of residents within the building. Residential Aides are responsible for completing safety rounds, engaging with residents, assisting where needed (restroom upkeep, assist with any emergency(ices) in apartments, and support with conflict de-escalation, etc.)
Shift: Saturday & Sunday 4PM- 12Midnight
Salary: $22.36 per hour (union role)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Member Support
-
Engage and support members in the residence or apartment to perform necessary tasks for the upkeep of the residence and the well-being of members

Work as part of Fountain House’s integrated care team providing feedback, advocacy and support to FH clinical staff, case management support staff, vocational staff, and social practitioners

Engage and work alongside members, as it pertains to the functions of Security at Fountain House

Maintain daily log entries regarding complaints and incidents
-
Conduct conflict resolution and de-escalation when needed for members in a crisis

Provide member support to de-escalate potential issues and alert supervisors when needed

Provide excellent communication skills, take phone messages, and transfer calls appropriately to members and Residence Director
Building Safety & Maintenance

Conduct rounds to ensure safeguards are in place throughout residential space, for member safety

Ensure safety of building, by conducting timely rounds, ensuring doors and windows are properly locked and alarm system is functional and armed

Active participation in the maintenance and cleanliness of the residence

Responsible for building garbage removal

Ability to work on a rotational basis, including covering shifts when necessary

Request with maintenance work orders and building repairs and maintenance concern

Other duties, as assigned by supervisor as needed
REQUIRED KNOWELDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Experience and capacity to work with members experiencing mental health issues

Provide exceptional ongoing support and member confidentiality
-
Proven writing skills for accurate documentation and progress notes

Excellent computer and software proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel, and Outlook)

Must be able to work under pressure during a crisis

Ability to communicate clearly and professionally to members

Ability to meet deadlines for documentation and any other necessary duties

Ability to work independently, multitask and conduct assignments of building tasks prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND CREDENTIALS

High School Degree or GED required
-
1-2+ years’ work experience in a residential setting, security maintenance, or similar housing setting required
-
Flexible and able to work additional residential shifts, including evenings and weekends, as needed
-
Positive, energetic, dynamic, and engaging personality is essential

Collaborative and creative approach to work-related duties
-
Knowledge and passion for issues affecting people living with mental illness strongly preferred
