Reports to Production Manager
Job Purpose
This position will support the fabrication, bonding and assembly of Advanced Composite molds and parts.
Processes used are varied and can be complex, it will require skills and knowledge to work with and accurately complete tasks throughout the production process. These will include in-process verification, conformance to customer requirements, following work instructions, to read and interpret drawings, manuals or specifications. This person will contribute to the successful completion of projects at Sawyer
Composite and allow us to meet our Quality Objectives.
Composite Tool Technician Lead Duties and Responsibilities
- Trimming, grinding, sanding, and polishing of composite laminates while holding tolerances in accordance with drawing, prints and/or Work Instructions
- Wet laminating with dry fabrics and epoxy resin systems
- Mixing resins or adhesives to proper ratios and instructions
- Laminating prepreg materials as directed by traveler or Work Instruction
- Preparing molds for processing using mold release products – wax, PVA, Frekote, etc.
- Execute vacuum bag processes according to Sawyer or customer requirements
- Using production shop tools for trimming, finishing – grinders, saws, drills - power or pneumatic
- Utilize measuring equipment for in-process validation – calipers, micrometer, height gauge, etc.
- Perform work per engineering drawings as well as written and verbal instructions.
- Work with engineering to develop composite hardware fabrication and assembly processes
- Adhere to and complete all documentation including travelers, Work Instructions, quality procedures, inspection sheets, and drawings as applicable to the work being performed
- Maintain a clean and safe work area
- Demonstrate safe work habits and able to wear required protective equipment as required
- Ability to sit and/or stand stationary at a work station for several hours
Composite Tool Technician Lead Qualifications
- Education (High School Diploma or GED)
- 3+ years of composite manufacturing or repair station experience
- Experience working within a manufacturing environment
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Able to complete a task with forethought and attention to detail
- Interpret drawings for details and fabrication criteria
- Excellent bench and finishing skills
- Capable and willing to work in a group to meet deadlines and scheduled tasks
- Willing to work flexible hours and over time
- Excellent mechanical aptitude with hand tools
- Ability to use production tools such as: power drills, pneumatic sanders, surface grinders, angle grinders, pencil grinders, and basic mechanics hand tools
- Working knowledge of Aerospace manufacturing and process equipment
- Experience with GD&T methodology
This position will be performed within the environmentally controlled primary production floor.
Exposure to elevated noise, dust and fumes will occur all of which you will be provided access to proper hearing and respirator protection. Heavy equipment utilization will also occur in the area.
Composit Tool Technician Lead Physical Requirements
Full shift standing, walking, bending and sitting may occur as well as lifting no more than 50lbs.
Areas utilizing resins, solvents and dust will require use of appropriate respiratory protection.

Pay: $23.00 - $27.00 per hour
