Job Description
Summary
The Counselor I, under the Program Coordinator conduct outreach for project services; plan, develop, and
implement Gender Expansive Training services for project participants; implement Probation approved 12
week curriculum to participants that is trauma responsive, youth centered, cognitive behavior based and
gender expansive to youth 12-21 years old. This position will be working primarily at the Juvenile Halls
and Detention Camps in the County of Los Angeles. (Barry J. Nidorf Juvenile Hall, Dorothy Kirby Center,
Camp Vernon Kilpatrick, Camp Rockey, Camp Paige, Camp Afflerbaugh). The Counselor I must be available
Monday through Saturday.
Role and Responsibilities
Counselor I/CASE FILE:
- Maintain participants files, document group sessions and case notes.
- Coordinate and implement 1 to 2 hours group sessions 3 - 5 times per week.
- Communicate with sensitivity to clients from diverse language and cultural backgrounds.
- Ensure each participant receives a Certificate of Completion and survey at the end of the program.
- Provide cohort group sessions of 5-20 participants.
- Provide sessions to youth group ages 12-21 years old
- Implement Pre and Post-tests.
- Conduct Satisfaction Surveys after every group session.
2. CONDUCT OUTREACH, ADVOCACY AND A REFERRAL NETWORK FOR PROJECT SERVICES:
Contact the Probation Juvenile Hall or Camp Personnel for authorization to conduct services.
- Provide referrals for youth and families to services not encompassed within the project.
