MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Certification
- Must have a current Colorado Teaching License, Agriculture Science License, and CTE Agriculture Certificate, or have the ability to obtain such credentials in a timely manner. Out of state applicants will be considered if they can qualify for a Colorado license.
- Alternative Teacher License Candidates encouraged to apply
Experience
- Successful prior teaching experience in grades K-12 grade levels, Ag preferred.
- Must have a proven track record of working collaboratively with staff members to best meet the academic and social/emotional needs of students.
- Experience in leading, or at a minimum knowledge of FFA expectations, processes, and culture experience.
SUMMARY
Under the immediate direction of the Building Principal, the teacher is responsible for the academic, social, and psychological growth of students in the classroom. Teacher collaborates with school personnel, parents and community agencies to provide quality instructional programs and to perform other duties directly related to this position description.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
● The teacher will conduct an instructional program according to the Board of Education requirements and the state program approval. The basic curriculum for each course shall be adhered to and:
o Utilize effective instructional strategies and materials
o Basic skills and abilities of students be developed in the lab classroom
● FFA is an integral part of the instructional program. The teacher will serve as the advisor for the local chapter of FFA. Planning for and supporting students in district, regional, state, and national cooperative activities.
● Supervise Agricultural Experience (SAE) programs for all students. To include, but no limited to:
o Assisting students in selecting a program that best fits their interest and abilities
o Maintain records and help students maintain needed records
o Locate training for students in work-based learning experiences
o Coordinate training experiences that meet instructional needs of students
o Make supervisory visits during the school year and summer months
o Supervise the lab classroom for students working in supervised agricultural experience
programs
● The teacher will prepare and submit FFA rosters, entries, registrations, etc. required by the local, district, regional, state offices, promptly. Keep an accurate file copy of all records
● Assume a responsible role in public and professional partnerships by actively participating in civic, professional, agricultural and other community organizations. Keep the public informed on student and program progress and activities.
The Ag teacher will:
o Participate in Agricultural Advisory Committee Meetings
o Utilize newsletters, social media, advertising, etc. to inform parents, staff and community
of the Agricultural Programs activities progress
o Hold membership in professional organizations
o Participate in professional development workshops and in-services
● The teacher will maintain facilities and equipment through the following activities:
o Proper arrangement of classroom, shop, lab classroom
o Coordinate the maintenance and repair of tools and equipment
o Order new equipment and supplies as needed and budgeted
o Establish and monitor school procedures for keeping classroom, shop, lab classroom and
grounds neat and attractive at all times
o Ensure that lab safety is taught and observed at all times. Safety items are available for
student use and safety features have been installed and in working order on equipment
o Conduct an annual inventory of all tools, equipment and supplies and supply
administration with the inventory documentation
● The teacher will supervise the students at off-campus activities such as conventions, contests, workshops, field trips, etc. associated with the agriculture program and the FFA
● The teacher will design and submit a Summer Program of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources to be approved by school administration and the Agriculture Advisory Committee. The teacher will work an extended contract of 161 teacher contract days plus 30 day extended contract days based upon the needs of students and the summer program requirements. Vacation will be based on contract length.
● If candidate has a Master’s degree there may be the opportunity to teach college courses through concurrent enrollment
● Other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
This role involves the person in this position being able to make good, sound decisions based on information available. This person will work with students during the regular school day as well as have numerous after school responsibilities associated with the program. Written and spoken language proficiency is a must, and the ability to respond professionally in a timely manner to questions from groups of parents or community members is required. This person should be proficient in the use of technology, which includes: basic operations and concepts, word processing, spreadsheets, internet usage, critical evaluation of information, data analysis, email, and use of both Google and Microsoft Office platforms as well as other FFA and Ag specific software used in the classroom.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk and frequently required to walk and must be able to stand up frequently. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Standard School environment; work closely with students and staff. General good physical condition necessary to perform the duties of the job.
