Job Description
The Assistant Director Sterile Processing is responsible for implementing departmental policies relevant to the operation of the Sterile Processing department, in accordance with established health system policies and accepted standards.
The Assistant Director will provide leadership, technical support, and ensure regulatory compliance within Sterile Processing and lead operations. The Assistant Director ensures competent staffing coverage, collaborates with physicians, staff and other managers on a daily basis to ensure safe patient care and patient access to clinical services. This position is part of the Peri-Operative Services Management Team.
The Assistant Director assists with budget and equipment planning as well as coordinates the maintenance of all Sterile Processing equipment utilized within the Department. The Assistant Director will participate providing 24-hour support to the department and may be required to travel between sites.
Key Responsibilities:
Develops, revises and implements policies and procedures with approval from the Administrative Director, Medical Director, Infection Control and others in accordance with established hospital policy and in compliance with applicable regulatory agency standards.
Analyzes, evaluates and takes appropriate actions to resolve system problems in the department.
Acts as administrative representative in various hospital and departmental committees as assigned.
Participates in long-term planning of operations and management activities with the Perioperative Services management team.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration or related field required.
Relevant experience may be considered in the absence of a degree.
At least five years of management and/or supervisory experience in a sterile processing department at an acute care hospital or hospital system; experience implementing current best practice; knowledge of decontamination, and sterilization sciences case cart systems: including care of state of the art equipment, e.g., robotics and minimally invasive instrumentation.
Operating room or procedural area experience, preferred.
In-depth knowledge of the following standards: AAMI, AORN, FDA, TJC, OSHA.
Proficient in Word, Excel, Office software
Critical thinking and analytical skills.
Experience working in a Labor/Management Partnership environment preferred.
Knowledge of medical terminology and instrumentation.
Experience leading teams through change management and process improvements.
Demonstrated analytical skills including basic principles of finance and statistics.
License/Certification/Registration Requirements
Current Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, CBSPD or Healthcare Sterile Processing Certification (or obtain within 12 months of employment).
Current Certification in Healthcare Leadership from Healthcare Sterile Processing (or obtain within 12 months of employment).
Current California RN License preferred.

Salary Range:
$79.67 - $119.51 USD Hourly
