Job Purpose
Secondary Teacher
● Instruct from a biblical worldview
● Plan lessons that engage students while adapting lessons to the various needs and learning styles of students
● Be patient, creative, resourceful, and good communicator
● Influence young minds and help children find pathways to reach their potential while building confidence
Duties and Responsibilities
● Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.
● Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
● Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods, such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations.
● Confer with parents or guardians, teachers, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems.
● Prepare students for later grades by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks
Teacher Responsibilities
● Teach students as assigned using curriculum, supplementary materials, field trips, special guests, etc.; a. exercise good stewardship of time within the teaching period; b. Be attentive to students with special learning needs, and make appropriate referrals; c. be well prepared for the classes to be taught and turn in lesson plans to the administrator every Monday morning for the coming week;
● Attend and participate in the following: d. morning devotions, e. teacher's meetings, f. evening programs if involving his or her students, g. ACSI Greater Washington Convention/teacher in-service/staff development, and other meetings as assigned; complete paperwork including the following: a. Progress Reports midway through each grading period, b. report cards four times a year, c. inventories of classroom equipment/supplies/books, d. end-of-year checkout lists, e. records of attendance, f. administration of achievement tests, g. other paperwork as assigned or requested. h. completion of class record files;
Daily Responsibilities
● Maintain proper classroom discipline, taking care of minor problems personally and referring major problems to the Administrator; stay in close communication with parents;
● Communicate with parents for academic problems through conferences, notes, emails and phone conversations, and be available to any parents or students who wish to have a conference before or after school;
● Sponsor extracurricular activities, organizations or outings as assigned;
● Observe the Matthew 18 principle in conflict resolution. Avoid a negative, critical spirit. Take problems to appropriate administrator as necessary.
● Carry out any other specific duties as assigned
Qualifications
Qualifications Include:
● Bachelor’s Degree
● Classroom Management
● Content Area Knowledge
● Complete the Christian Philosophy of Education in-service program within the first year of teaching, and apply for highest level of ACSI certification possible. Courses shall be taken to remove deficiencies within the time frame of the initial certification;
● Maintain a close personal walk with the Lord evidenced by his/her example and spiritual leadership among peers and with students
Physical Requirements
