PRIMARY FUNCTION:
In collaboration with the Chief Grants, Strategy & Compliance Officer, the Grants Manager is responsible for meeting or exceeding BGCMC’s annual grant fundraising goals and contributing to the organization’s overall fundraising efforts. This role manages a systematic approach to research new private and public funders, oversees a portfolio of grant-making prospects, and develops cultivation and solicitation strategies. The Grants Manager assumes a lead role in grant proposal development, manages submissions, tracks deadlines, and provides stewardship to funders post-award.
KEY ROLES:
· In collaboration with the Chief Grants, Strategy & Compliance Officer, meet or exceed BGCMC’s annual grant fundraising goals and help contribute to the organization’s overall fundraising goals.
· Manage a system to research new private and public funders, identified through tools like Foundation Directory Online or Instrumental; or by researching leads.
· Oversee a portfolio of grant making prospects. Develop and execute strategies for cultivation and solicitation.
· Assume the lead role in developing grant proposals to new and existing funders as assigned by the Chief Grants, Strategy, and Compliance Officer.
· Write, submit, and track grant proposals and LOIs, managing deadlines for the Grants & Compliance Team.
· Track grant application due dates in a centralized system. Maintain a grant application calendar to track due dates for renewals and new opportunities.
· Work with the team to compile information needed to submit grant applications.
· Work closely with the operations, human resources, and finance teams to develop meaningful and relevant grant proposals.
· Work closely with Finance staff to develop budgets for proposals in line with grant requirements.
· Assist with proofreading colleagues’ written materials to ensure highest quality work.
· Once awarded, advise staff on all aspects of the grant, including content, requirements, measurement, and reports.
· Become a content expert on BGCMC programs and expected outcomes. Continuously maintain updated, accurate, high-quality boilerplate proposal language and general information for use by the grants team.
· Develop and update community needs assessments for inclusion in proposals and to inform new/key initiatives, strategy and delivery.
· Help provide exceptional stewardship to funders in support of a highly effective grant stewardship plan. This includes but is not limited to the development and implementation of regular stewardship mailings, site visits, social media recognition, and other stewardship activities.
· Organize site visits and tours for prospective and current funders.
· Update the fundraising/finance database as needed with relevant funder information.
· Maintain a system to track grants awarded, pending applications, and upcoming due dates. Compile reports as requested for the leadership team and Board of Directors. Maintain up to date reports tracking the team’s progress meeting grant revenue goals.
· Prepare relevant reports and actively participate in pipeline meetings with the greater Resource Development Team.
· Attend and support monthly Grant Committee meetings, including preparing the agenda and relevant support materials, in collaboration with the Chief Grants, Strategy, and Compliance Officer.
· Represent Boys & Girls Clubs in the community including attending community meetings and events, as directed by the Chief Grants, Strategy, and Compliance Officer.
· Represent BGCMC at Board Committee meetings as needed and directed by the Chief Grants, Strategy, and Compliance Officer.
· Maintain positive relationships with funders and other stakeholders.
· Conduct other duties as assigned by the Chief Grants, Strategy, and Compliance Officer.
· Additional duties as assigned.
RELATIONSHIPS
· Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with supervisor and colleagues to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel. Work with internal staff, volunteers and others as needed.
· External: Represent BGCMC effectively at individual, group and community meetings, developing and maintaining strong relationships with current and prospective funders. Maintain contact and build relationships with community organizations, current/prospective funders, and external staff to assist in mission advancement and to identify and cultivate partners and funders
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
· BA/BS required.
· Minimum 3-5 years of grant writing experience, including proposal, report, and budget development.
· Knowledge of and experience with public funding and government resources, and institutional donor cultivation/stewardship.
· Excellent written communication skills and strong verbal communication skills.
· Willingness to accept constructive feedback during draft phase of proposal.
· Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple simultaneous projects, and pay close attention to detailed proposal/reporting guidelines.
· Skill at editing content to meet limited word and character counts while still providing persuasive and clear information to potential funders.
· Strong interpersonal skills and ability to connect with staff across diverse functions, including Finance, Operations, and direct service, as well as with staff/members/donors of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
· Capacity to work well independently and take initiative as well as to collaborate with colleagues and work as a team.
· Candidate should be willing and able to adapt to new and evolving organizational and funding priorities and deadlines and to work occasional evenings/weekends as events and project deadlines dictate.

· Eagerness to join a quick-paced energetic grants team.
· Willingness to travel between the Main Office and local Clubs.
· Proficiency with Microsoft OS; familiarity with Excel helpful.
