STEP is a 40-day assessment program that serves a diverse group of students in grades 5-12 whose Special Education Team has determined they require a short term assessment. The program currently consists of two classrooms of up to eight students each, seven full time staff and six part time clinical interns.
The Educational Coordinator at STEP is a teaching and supervisory position that includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:
- Teaches a high school classroom of students with primary emotional and/or learning disabilities. Provides individualized academics to students requiring remedial assistance or advanced academic programming as needed. In charge of students' curriculum and working with the district, as needed, to help them remain engaged with district-provided curricula.
- Supports and assists in the behavior management of students
- Provides supervision and consultation to the other classroom teachers regarding curriculum development and implementation, differentiated instruction, weekly reports, and the educational assessments.
- Reviews intake materials and disseminates relevant academic history, and significant incidents to all staff via educational assessment draft and presentation at case conferences.
- Oversees the development of transcripts and report cards for all high school students and report cards for middle school students as requested by the school district.
- Coordinates and conducts the informal and formal educational testing to students using the Kaufman Test of Educational Achievement- 3rd Edition to all students, reviews results, and develops appropriate remedial strategies for implementation in the classroom. Presents the testing findings at the 40 day meeting.
- Coordinates with sending districts to schedule outside testing.
- Collaborates with the Director and Clinical Director to ensure learning style and educational goals are being addressed in all aspects of programming.
- Oversees all tasks and responsibilities related to the implementation of MCAS testing throughout the school year.
- Edits the academic and milieu weekly reports.
- Coordinate students’ transition to their new school upon completion of the STEP program.
- Coordinates and disseminates sending districts’ questionnaires or surveys accompanying three-year re-evaluations.
- Participates and enters all student information into the database
- The Educational Coordinator is supervised by the Director.

Qualifications
- Experience as a special educator in a school or program for students with emotional disabilities
- Masters level or higher in Special Education
- Supervisory experience preferred
The Dearborn STEP Education Coordinator works 10 months
