Job Summary: The Financial Controller will play a pivotal role in driving our financial performance and ensuring our long-term sustainability. Reporting to the CEO, this individual will oversee all financial aspects of the company, including financial planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, risk management and ensuring compliance with all financial regulations and laws The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership abilities, deep knowledge of the consumer retail space, demonstrate a strategic financial vision, and has a proven track record of fostering teamwork and success in financial management.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Industry-Specific Financial Management: Develop and execute financial strategies tailored to the retail energy sector. Understand and navigate market fluctuations, regulatory changes, and the competitive landscape to optimize financial performance.

Financial Reporting and Regulatory Compliance: Ensure accurate and timely financial statements and reports, adhering to GAAP and industry-specific regulatory requirements. Lead all external reporting and compliance efforts, including those related to energy trading and sales. Stay abreast of industry trends, economic developments, and regulatory changes that may impact the company's financial performance.

Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A): Lead the financial planning and analysis process, including the of short-range quarterly forecasts, annual operating plans, rolling driver-based 6-quarter forecasts, the strategic three year outlook, long-term financial plans, and forecasts.

Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to prepare budgets and forecasts that reflect the unique challenges and opportunities in the retail energy sector. Utilize market insights to inform financial planning and business strategy.

Cash Flow Management: Oversee cash flow planning and ensure availability of funds. Implement strategies to optimize working capital, credit facilities and maintain financial health. Evaluate and enhance financial and operational processes to improve efficiency.

Risk Management: Identify financial and regulatory risks specific to the energy sector. Develop and implement risk management strategies to protect the company’s assets and financial health.

Strategic Leadership: Provide financial insights and recommendations to the CEO and board of directors, influencing the strategic direction of the company. Drive initiatives that contribute to long-term operational and financial success.

Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a small finance and accounting team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. Promote collaboration across departments to achieve financial and business objectives.

Stakeholder Communication: Communicate financial metrics and project statuses to senior management, the board of directors, and external stakeholders, providing them with the information necessary to make informed decisions.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s degree or CPA preferred).

Minimum of 10 years of experience in a senior financial management role, with proven leadership skills, in a consumer retail setting.

Experience in Retail energy experience not necessary, but helpful.

FP&A, P&L experience within a consumer retail businessStrong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, tax planning, and compliance.

Strong financial modeling and analytical skills, with the ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights.
