All employees are expected to work in a harmonious and cooperative fashion with other staff to provide efficient and effective customer service: to use free time as available to assist other staff in the completion of work assignments and perform other tasks as needed; to contribute to a positive work environment through a positive, helpful, courteous demeanor towards staff, customers and the general public; and to adhere to appropriate standards of conduct regarding the use of leave, reports to work on time and in the designated fashion.
This position is responsible for ensuring the Security Dept. operates in an orderly and professional manner. To make sure security officers do their jobs in a timely manner and that they are done properly. Some of the duties is resident calls that could turn into restraint situations. Staff calls requiring various types of staff assistance. Fire extinguisher checks. Building checks. Ground checks every 30 minutes. Keep everyone on grounds safe. This person must also maintain a valid drivers' license and be able to safely operate a motor vehicle.
The essential functions of this position require physical strength to frequently push, pull, twist, bend, squat, walk, stand for extended periods of time, lift and/or restrain residents with or without assistance and respond to aggressive resident behavior with specific, trained techniques. Must be able to observe and respond to residents in distress. Have the ability to quickly locate, chase, and subdue persons through various terrain and building layouts; the ability to quickly transport injured or immobile persons through various building layouts, terrain, and disaster areas; and the physical ability to identify break-ins from a distance under day and night conditions. Employee must be physically able to restrain and/or control combative residents, and randomly patrol grounds, in order to protect persons and property on the grounds of PSHTC. This requires knowledge and adherence to established security procedures.
Knowledge and proficiency in CIT, CPR, Infection Control, etc., are required to ensure the safety of and prevent injury to employees, residents and others. Proficiency in observation techniques is required to identify suspicious persons/vehicles and/or situations that appear out of the ordinary to ensure the safety of employees, residents, visitors and equipment on the grounds of and in the buildings of PSHTC.
Parsons State Hospital is funded in part by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and is subject to requirements bestowed by Federal and State levels of government conditions of participation.
Qualifications:
Minimun Criteria:
High school diploma or equivalent and one year experience in safety, security or fire prevention work. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
Staff who operates a motor vehicle must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license.
Positions in this class require that at the time of appointment the selected candidate must take and pass a drug screening test approved by the Division of Personnel Services. Persons hired must also pass a law enforcement security clearance in compliance with policies of the Department of Aging and Disability Services.
