Position Summary:
Perform integration, alignment, and testing of custom opto-mechanical systems incorporating lasers, motor driven stages, and a variety of custom designed optical components. Demonstrated expertise in potting lenses and mirrors as well as using industry standard alignment tooling to assemble multi-element optical systems.
Essential Functions:
· Perform optical alignment techniques for lenses and mirrors using standard alignment tooling and techniques.
· Perform the handling, cleaning, and potting lenses and mirrors.
· Use and handle lasers especially as pertaining to alignment.
· Carry out proper handling, storage and maintenance of tools and equipment.
· Integrate, align and test multi-element optical systems which incorporate lasers and motor driven stages.
· Devise fixtures and jigs to support alignment activity.

Work Environment:
This job operates in a manufacturing environment. The role routinely uses manufacturing equipment such as jigs, test fixtures, soldering iron, crimpers and hand tools.
The employee is occasionally exposed to chemicals and hazardous materials (including, but not limited to, corrosives, flammables, compressed gasses, explosives, carcinogens, pyrophorics, irritants, toxins, offensive odors). The employee will be required to wear all appropriate safety equipment including but not limited to eye protection, gloves, masks, lab coats, respirators and closed shoes. An employee in this position works in an environment in which safety, environmental and health concerns may demand constant attention. Strict adherence to organization policies, rules and regulations in these areas are required.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration.
The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of conditions at the manufacturing site.
Required Education and Experience:
· Associate’s Degree in Arts/Associate’s Degree in Science in related field required. (Equivalent education or experience may be considered in lieu of degree.)
· Minimum five (5) years of experience in optics industry.
· Hand-on experience with laser systems and conducting laser alignment.
· Experience supporting new business development and capture.
· Intermediate knowledge of standard software used for reports and documentation (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Education and Experience:
· Ten (10) years of experience in optics industry.
· Experience in techniques for bore sighting laser beams through optical trains with moving stages and telescopes.
· Knowledge of optical metrology techniques and specifications.
Work Authorization/Security Clearance
· Subject to a government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
· Eligibility for Department of Defense Security Clearance required. Active Department of Defense Secret Clearance preferred.
Technical Skills:
· Familiarity with techniques, equipment (ZYGO laser interferometer), and specifications associated with optical metrology.
· Adaptability to devise fixtures and jigs to support alignment activities.

The employee is routinely required to utilize standard office equipment (personal computer, calculator, and photocopier); laboratory equipment and analytical instrumentation; and perform repetitive keyboard operations. The employee is routinely required to use and/or apply personal protection equipment (including, but not limited to, gloves, masks, lab coats, safety glasses, and respirators).
The employee is occasionally exposed to significant noise level in the work environment.
