Alaska Roteq strives to be the most trusted, premier solutions provider of service, repair and products for the State of Alaska. We have a 35,000 square foot facility that primarily services the repair of rotating equipment from full machining services, thermal spray coating, welding, balancing, field machining and engineering among our many other services. In addition to repairs we can provide full service support for your purchase of new equipment and engineered products in the realm of pumps, air compressors, mechanical seals, valves and instrumentation.
To this end, we are hiring in our Wasilla location a qualified machinist to our team.
JOB STATEMENT/PURPOSE:
This position will lay out and perform complete machining and repairs of metallic and non-metallic materials for complicated parts from complicated design drawings, sketches and/or verbal instructions, including set up and operation of machine tools as required by work assignment. Must have a thorough knowledge of all aspects of machining components for Alaska Roteq requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans and lays out work from design drawings, sketches, sample parts and/or oral instructions without direct supervision.
- Makes set ups and adjustments on all machine tools for complete machining and repairs of Alaska Roteq components to complicated design drawings, sketches, sample parts and/or verbal instruction while maintaining tolerances of .0005” or less.
- Uses Company and personal measuring devices for checking components for conformity to previous instructions.
- Grinds necessary tooling for completion of machining.
- Assists in training for machinists, machine operators and trainees.
- Maintains assigned equipment, maintenance logs and work areas in a clean and orderly condition. Performs routine maintenance at regular intervals on their primary machine. Also checks their secondary machines for fluid levels, grease, etc. prior to use.
- Performs assignments maintaining safe conditions throughout the work area. Checks parts to determine if they are safe to handle.
- Inspect other Machinist’s parts for conformance to drawing specifications and Alaska Roteq’s quality standards in the absence of the Quality Control Inspector.
- Adheres to company quality control policies and processes.
- Maintains close working relationship with fellow workers to help promote trust, integrity and respect in the workplace. This position is expected to work on several different machines as required by the operating schedule of the shop. In addition there will be a certain amount of overtime required in order to meet the maintenance scheduled requirements of Alaska Roteq’s customers

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) plus a minimum of four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- CNC Lathe with live tooling and Mastercam experience preferred.
- 410 & 316 Stainless, Inconel, K-monel and CD4MUCU materials experience preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret simple to complicated machining drawings and other documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures manuals. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one exchange with other employees and/or customers of the company.
- Ability to use basic shop mathematics and has a working knowledge of trigonometry tables for figuring various angles, radii and chords.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variable in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
- Graduation and certification from a trade machinist school would be greatly helpful.
- Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record.
- Must be able to pass random drug testing.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee may occasionally be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This position may require occasional travel for field projects.
