General Summary
Coordinates the didactic and practical components of a System-wide phlebotomy training program that encompasses technical and academic aspects. Assists in recruiting, interviewing and selecting students. Assists in teaching theory and clinical practice to all areas performing phlebotomy, and with developing competency assessments and continuing education programs for staff performing phlebotomy. Assists in teaching phlebotomy to non-laboratory staff (WMG employees, VNA, Urgent Care employees, LPNs, RNs, NAs, and MAs).
Duties and Responsibilities
- Participates in planning the program curriculum content and course outline in conformance with program goals and accreditation standards.
- Works with each hospital laboratory to set up scheduling of clinical rotations and follows through with students to assign them to appropriate areas dependent on student progress.
- Lectures and gives classroom demonstrations on subjects and illustrates using audiovisual equipment, models, etc.. Instructs and demonstrates the care of patients.
- Observes and evaluates students' performance in actual clinical situations, and assists, guides, and instructs as necessary.
- Prepares assignments and examinations to determine student progress and grades. Maintains all required student records and prepares related reports.
- Provides educational sessions for other providers that perform phlebotomy, as needed.
- Regularly reviews Journals, scientific articles, appropriate textbooks to keep abreast of changing technologies and incorporates pertinent changes into lecture material.
- Orders supplies as needed for student laboratory sessions.

- Estimated Amount: - Travel to WellSpan facilities is required. Mileage will be reimbursed.
Qualifications
Minimum Education:
- High School diploma or GED required
- Associate's degree. Preferred
Work Experience:
- 2 years Relevant experience. Required
- 5 years Relevant experience. Preferred
Licenses:
- Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist - ASCP within 1 year Required or
- Certified Medical Laboratory Technician - ASCP within 1 year Required or
- Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist - AMT within 1 year Required or
- Certified Medical Laboratory Technician - AMT within 1 year Required or
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician - ASCP within 1 year Required or
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician - ASPT within 1 year Preferred or
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician - NHA within 1 year Preferred or
- Registered Phlebotomy Technician - AMT within 1 year Required
- Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required
Driver's License Statement:
- Must possess a valid driver's license in the current state of residence. Driving record must meet requirements established by WellSpan Risk Management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent human relations and oral/written communications skills.
- Computer skills.
- Team Lead or supervisory skills a plus.
