Medical Assistant Job Summary:
Performs a variety of medically related and administrative tasks by assisting Physicians/NP/PA in clinics providing direct patient care. Administrative tasks may include answering phones, scheduling, and admitting patients, and assisting with insurance forms and verification. Medically related tasks may include checking vitals, updating medical histories, asking about symptoms, answering basic questions, and explaining diagnoses and treatment plans. Also performs basic diagnostic laboratory procedures such as taking blood, urine, and other bodily fluid samples, giving injections, assisting with limited radiology services, and cleaning and sterilizing equipment.
Medical Assistant Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assisting the Physician with treatment: rooming patients, taking and recording vital signs, blood/lab draws, post-surgical wound care, suture/staple removal, EKG’s, IM injections, phlebotomy, application of braces and durable medical products, instructing in use and care of TENS units, prescriptions and prescription refills under the direction of the MD, dispensing medication, monthly drug count, ensuring all post-op medications are taken to the surgery center for surgeries, writing medications and any other orders, facilitating IME’s, working in clinic, documentation of medical history and initial patient work-ups, scheduling MRI Reviews.
- Type correspondence, reports and memos in patient’s file
- Conduct appointment reminder calls, texts and emails
- Screen calls, arrange appointments and referrals. Reschedule missing appointments. Check daily voicemails.
- Scan all provider dictations into patient files
- Scan records into patient chart, upload into electronic charts
- Maintain inventory and submit front office supply order to administration
- Maintain confidentiality of company information
- Work as a contributing and collaborative team member
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and required trainings as scheduled
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor/manager
- Knowledge and skills of the clinical process as they pertain to standing orders, medication review, charting and patient identification, utilizing EMR.
- Prepare patient charts for Clinic: Ensure all prior recommendations are complete, obtain all prior records before the day of the appointment, coordinate referrals, verify insurance benefits, calculating co-pays, deductibles and inquire on previous balances.
Medical Assistant Qualifications:
- High School diploma
- Minimum 1 year experience
- Previous experience in Pain Management or administering injections required.
- Customer service skills/experience.
- Ability to comprehend established office routines and policies.
- Typing, phones and basic office equipment
- Working knowledge of electronic medical records
- Working knowledge of benefits, calculating co-pays, and deductibles
- Ortho/Pain Management experience
- Phlebotomy/X-Ray/Injections experience
- Certified Medical Administration Assistant (CMAA) through an accredited (CAAHEP or ABHES) program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
