Job Title: Day Direct Support Professional
Department: Career Development Center
Reports To: Operations Supervisor
Work Schedule - Monday - Friday 8:30am - 4:30 pm.
General Purpose of the Job: The overall purpose is to support adults with intellectual disabilities attending NCIA’s Career Development Center in meaningful daytime activities to achieve their individual goals as specified in their Person-Centered Plan (PCP). This position is required to float between numerous individual groups or as a 1:1 based on center needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities – Supports individuals in Increasing Independence and Reaching Their Person-Centered Goals
1) Provides assigned participants with individualized instruction, support (may consist of performing physical labor and or work-related tasks) direction, supervision, demonstration and follow up needed by the person to acquire appropriate social, recreational, and/or work skills in line with their individual goals.
2) Demonstrates knowledge of and implements Person-Centered Plans and Behavior Intervention Plans as assigned.
3) Assists persons served in implementing their daily work and/or community integration schedule.
4) Prepares for and participates in program planning for assigned participants as delineated by the CDC Operational Management and ensures that appropriate written reports and records are completed as scheduled.
5) Exhibits ability and willingness to perform and assist with functions of daily living, including feeding, toileting and personal hygiene functions.
6) Maintains assigned records, data collection, and behavioral logs with accuracy and within required timelines, including completing documentation of incidents according to the DDA Policy on Reportable Incidents and Investigations.
7) Ensures the safety of work/activity areas and equipment, confirms appropriateness of assignments, gathers equipment and supplies prior to the arrival of participants, and replenishes supplies throughout the workday as needed.
8) Provides persons served with the level of supervision specified in the Person-Centered Plans and Behavior Plans during program hours, including providing accurate ratios for assigned persons.
9) Maintains communication with supervisors and managers to ensure that all necessary administrative follow up and support services are provided.
10) Observes all safety rules and policies, and guards against accidental injury to staff or persons supported.
11) Maintains current certification in MANDT and utilizes approved behavior management techniques, including physical intervention when required.
12) Responds to crises expediently and provides the appropriate input and support needed to resolve the situation.
13) Reports any/all obstacles to achieving PCP goals to supervisors and managers in a timely fashion.
14) Attends and successfully completes all training required by the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) including, but not limited to, CPR/First Aid and MANDT.
15) Exhibits flexibility and enthusiasm in performing assigned duties.
16) Performs other duties to support people with disabilities as assigned.
Transportation Related Duties and Responsibilities:
1) Provides transportation in an NCIA vehicle to and from homes and CDP, and to job/activity sites, following designated transportation policies established by NCIA.
2) Follows protocols as it relates to daily and accurate documentation of all data on transportation logs: mileage, destination, passengers, completion of Vehicle Inspection Forms, etc.
3) Obeys all laws concerning operating a vehicle in the State of Maryland, including cell phone usage.
4) Ensures that vans have current documentation such as, registration, insurance cards, and accident forms and obtains the missing forms before operating the vehicle.
5) Conducts a visual safety check prior to driving the vehicle and at the end of the shift. Reports all noted abnormalities immediately to the Operations Supervisor.
6) Assists persons served as needed to enter and exit the vehicle safely.
7) Respects neighborhood etiquette at all times (music low, no horn blowing, conversations are respectful at normal sound level, etc.).
8) Adhere to all accident/incident report protocols.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
Education and/or Experience:
Ø High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and six months related experience and/or training; or
Ø Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Ø High School Diploma or GED.
Ø May be required to be a CMT and dispenses medication if necessary, for assigned participants.
Ø Must have a valid non -provisional state issued driver’s license and an acceptable driving record as determined by criteria established by the Agency's insurance carrier and Agency policy.
Other Qualifications:
Ø Must be at least 21 years of age.
