The mission of Centinela Youth Services, Inc. (CYS) is to strengthen families and communities by empowering youth to resolve conflicts and overcome obstacles in order to become successful students and contributing adults. CYS is a 501c3 non-profit, restorative justice organization established in 1975. CYS operates a variety of innovative programs proven to increase student performance; reduce school dropout rates, gang involvement, youth violence and crime and ultimately help preserve families. CYS is leading innovation that is transforming youth justice in LA and the state, with a commitment to both youth development and serving victims of youth crime, while impacting systemic change to end the school to prison pipeline. CYS is also providing leadership to critical juvenile justice reform in LA County, and as a result is growing rapidly.
Compensation
This is a non-exempt full-time position, including benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience. All full-time employees are invited to participate in the company’s health benefits package after completing the 60-90-day employment introductory period. Our benefits program includes select health plans and dental plans at 100% cost reimbursement (for employee only), vision insurance, time off accruals and holiday pay.
Work location
This position will split time between remote work and our Inglewood office. This position involves meetings in the field at various locations across Los Angeles County.
Schedule
This is a full-time position. CYS has the following 9/80 work schedule: Monday – Thursday, 8am – 6pm. Friday, 8am – 5pm, with every other Friday off.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in social work and/or psychology with a minimum of 2 years of working experience with diverse youth & families with 1 year of working experience in case management, program coordination, intake and/or resource and referral coordination or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Candidate will be required to pass background clearance and TB test (TB test only when requested).
- Interested & curious about Restorative Justice concepts and practices as well as passionate about working with youth and families.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish required.
- Candidate must be able to work independently as well as have strong interpersonal skills and be able to work efficiently in team environment.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with youth of multi-cultural and socio-economic backgrounds as well as have a basic understanding of traumas effects on behavior and development.
- Basic understanding of youth development principles and practices in order to provide individuals/clients/families with the resources they need to meet basic needs.
- Ability to express self clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, as well as actively listening and express sympathy.
- Ability to initiate and maintain positive contact with individuals and organizations.
- Ability to gather, analyze, review and vet information received verbally and on paper.
- Candidate needs to be detail orientated with strong time management and organizational skills; must be able to work well under stress and meet deadlines.
- Must have good analytical and computer skills (MS Word and Excel).
- Ability to conduct presentations for a variety of audiences.
- Applicant must also possess a valid California driver’s license; have use of a reliable vehicle, be able to provide evidence of automobile liability insurance.
- Ability to receive critical feedback & implement feedback received.
General Functions and Responsibilities: Under the direction and supervision of the CARS Program Supervisor, the Youth and Family Resources Coordinator will be responsible for managing program referrals and helping manage intake coordination.
General functions of the role include:
- Providing resource navigation and linkages to referred youth and their families (Counseling and Resource Services (CARS) receives referrals from any age group),
- Assisting in program referral/enrollment for clients.
- Consistent and regular contact with families and providers to monitor progress.
- Triaging referred youth to the appropriate internal CYS program.
- As with all CYS programs, the Youth and Family Resource Coordinator will work through a trauma informed lens to provide top-tier service to all clients.
Other duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Counseling and Resource Services Specific Duties:
- Refer participants to service providers for social and developmental services such as victim/offender and family mediation, mental health treatment and/or counseling, education rights assistance, academic assistance, housing assistance, life skills, and vocational/job training.
- Maintain accurate case files; collect and report data as needed for reports and evaluation.
- Call referred clients to determine eligibility for program and willingness to enroll.
- Maintain regular contact with providers and clients to monitor progress.
- Assist with the development of effective assessment and case management procedures and systems.
- Make home and school visits as needed.
- Provide timely follow-up to CARS referrals via email, phone, etc. to build rapport and identify appropriate services needed.
- Research potential new program service providers throughout the Southern California area based on need.
- Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
- May require spending most of the day walking, standing, sitting, and regularly driving back and forth to off-site locations.
- Significant periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
- Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
- Reliable transportation required
Office Hours: Monday – Thursday 8am – 6pm, every other Friday 8am – 5pm; must be flexible to work late hours to accommodate program clients (10:30am – 8:30pm) once or twice per week.
