This position is a vital part of a rapidly growing, brand-based skincare company and contract manufacturer that is executing multiple acquisitions in the skincare and cosmetics industry. This operation is a healthy environment without politics or management baggage. The person fulfilling this position will grow and develop as a leader as we transition to an OTC manufacturer. This position:
Formulation and Production Tasks
- Creates new innovative formulations and products in a capable affective manner to answer trends in market,
- Performs evaluations of competitive products; reports, findings as appropriate, breaks down/reverse engineers’ the formulations,
- Performs calculations and assessments to convert laboratory scale formula to large scale manufacturing and ensures formulas align to manufacturing capabilities and meet expected performance, safety and regulatory requirements,
- Troubleshoots problems with formulations, with tech transfer projects, and with production,
- Conducts stability testing and compatibility testing of products under development and batches,
- Provides written instructions for adjustment of batches when needed,
- Responsible for overseeing from a formula side execution of production batches,
- Sources new raw materials and meets with vendors when needed.
Quality and Regulatory Tasks
- Collect and analyze all batch samples in accordance with Master Batch Record instructions
- Collect and analyze all equipment or facility samples in accordance with protocols
- Participate in cleaning verification, product release, and raw material authorization under the guidance of Quality Management
- Document all activities performed to support the assessment of product or facility quality
- Performs QC, experimental, developmental, and analytical tests on raw materials and finished goods.
- Demonstrate critical thinking and understanding of good manufacturing and good laboratory practices in production, chemistry, and microbiology settings
- Operate laboratory equipment (pH meters, laboratory scales, pipettes, mixers, hot plates, microbiological plating, sample collection, etc.)
- Work closely with and report daily to Regulatory Director with any quality issues and testing status
- Ensure all laboratory equipment is maintained in good working order and calibrated at the appropriate frequency according to procedures
- Be transparent and accurate with work to uphold scientific standards in the industry
- Perform all other duties as directed by Quality Management
Required Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledgeable and experienced formulation of a variety of personal care products, cosmetics and OTC from concept to finished product.
- Ability to formulate and test skincare product formulations including evaluations of competitive products; reports, and findings as appropriate
- Ability to perform most duties with minimal supervision.
- Ability to apply interpersonal skills to resolve a wide range of problems.
- Ability to conceptualize and apply innovative solutions.
- Ability to anticipate and solve technical problems.
- Ability to handle multiple projects while meeting tight time constraints.
- Understanding of Quality Systems and requirements for ensuring product quality is preferred.
- Understanding of Stability and Compatibility.
- Knowledge of global cosmetic regulations including working knowledge of FDA regulations, and cGMPs, safety guidelines.
- Efficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Strong attention to detail and notebook documentation.
- Actively maintains knowledge about most current technical and industry trends.
Experience Requirements
- 2+ years formulation experience in skincare consumer products or cosmetics industry, OTC a plus
- 2+ years experience in a cGMP Personal Care or Cosmetic facility, preferably in Contract Manufacturing.
- Working knowledge of quality, cGMP, ISO 9000 and FDA regulations
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, engineering, or other technical degree
- Experience in supporting scale-up and manufacturing processes
- Some experience in a laboratory setting is required. Coursework WITH LAB in any physical science (Chemistry, Biology, Physics) is sufficient
- Must be willing to work full-time
- Must be able to lift 30lbs, stand for long periods, and climb stairs.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
