Job Summary
With a solid understanding of plant care and chemical application techniques, the Spray Technician is responsible for applying pesticides, fertilizers and other chemicals to maintain the health and aesthetics of our client's landscapes. This includes but is not limited to fertilization and chemical application to Home Owner Association (HOA) common areas and commercial properties.
Essential Functions Include:
- Identifies disease and pest problems in lawn, landscape, and roadside areas and performs appropriate applications to control the pest or disease.
- Applies pre and post emergent as well as fertilizer to turf, trees, shrubs and other plant material within budgeted hours.
- Maintains records of work performed, pesticide usage, equipment repair/maintenance and the inventory of pesticides/fertilizers according to Arizona laws and regulations.
- Performs routine minor service and maintenance to vehicles, trailers and spray equipment to keep it in good/clean operating condition.
- Maintains knowledge of spray techniques and an understanding of how to safely apply chemicals.
- Upholds the organization’s commitment to safety by monitoring and reinforcing safety practices.
- Ensures Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are up to date.
Required and Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- A minimum of one year progressively responsible related experience in fertilization and chemicals is preferred.
- Must possess a valid state issued driver’s license and be insurable on the Company’s auto insurance policy.
- Aptitude to read and interpret labels with full understanding of application methods and equipment is required.
- The ability to measure and calibrate spray chemicals and equipment is required.
- Certified Applicator License is strongly preferred.
- The ability to execute safe work practices in a landscape environment.
- Proficiency or the ability to learn and utilize Microsoft Windows Suite, including Excel, Word and Teams is required, as well as build proficiency in Aspire, general office and field management applications.
- Ability to plan and organize daily work/routine while establishing priorities for the successful completion of work within provided timeframe.
Travel
Local travel to visit job sites and clients is required. This may include travel within a 150-mile radius of the respective company office. Incumbents frequently operate or ride in a vehicle while traveling from site to site.
Work environment, Conditions and Demands
- Physical demands require prolonged sitting (50% - 75% or time) from driving and standing and walking. On occasion, incumbents must walk up slopes at construction sites.
- Seldomly (5%-25%), this role requires pushing and pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling, and reaching for items.
- Seldomly (5%-25%) incumbents may engage in lifting or carrying an item (e.g., a bag of fertilizer) weighing up to 50 lbs.
- While in an office environment, the role requires manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate office equipment.
- Work entails frequent operation of motor vehicles, phone usage and working on a computer, laptop, or mobile device.
- Specific required vision abilities include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Incumbents are constantly required to communicate with the ability to talk and hear.

Regular eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity is required to operate office equipment. Incumbents may be required to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary to file documents.
