Job Summary:
The Inventory Control Specialist will maintain the organization’s inventory, ordering and supplying necessary items while maintaining accurate records of all procurements.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Maintains consistent stock of inventory.
- Establishes and maintains backup source for high-demand items.
- Assesses inventory reports and order patterns to identify items in need of automatic, recurring delivery.
- Provides inventory reports to purchasing and inventory control manager.
- Develops and maintains good working relationships with vendors.
- Maintains accurate daily records of goods received and shipments made.
- Manages and maintains inventory system; facilitates upgrades to related database and/or software under the direction of the purchasing or inventory control manager.
- Conducts frequent spot and partial audits of physical inventory.
- Assists with periodic (at least annual) physical inventory audits.
- Operates forklift truck when necessary.
- Print Count Sheets in location sequence. Conduct physical inventory count and enter quantity onto Count Sheet. Record and enter count results into system.
- Research inventory discrepancies by cycle counting discrepant items. Run transaction history to identify root cause and resolution.
- Conduct search of "Staging" areas. Perform "Empty" location audits. Record and report the results of the count and audits. Report findings to department supervisor or designated representative.
- Compiles, verifies, and reports daily and/or periodic statistical information aimed at detecting trends to improve and maintain the overall health of inventory.
- Assist in moving product in facility to improve efficiencies and optimization of storage.
- Assist in other areas such as operations, shipping and receiving as needed.
- Performs other related duties as requested.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent communication skills with warehouse associates, purchasing department, and outside vendors.
- Basic understanding of inventory control procedures.
- Extremely organized and able to work with minimum supervision.
- Ability to develop professional relationships with outside vendors.
- Ability to perform basic math calculations.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft business applications such as Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and warehouse management systems preferred.
- Experience must demonstrate the ability to balance competing priorities, complex situations, and tight deadlines.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience with computerized inventory systems.
- Forklift operator certification preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
- Must be able to navigate warehouse and reach items both high and low.
