Are you a licensed LVN or RN in San Diego looking for a summer opportunity to work with youth? As one of the largest summer day camps in San Diego, the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center is hiring a Camp Nurse for the 2024 summer season. Camp Jaycee hosts a variety of campers ranging in age from 18 months to 17 years.
Reporting to the Camp Director, the Camp Nurse is a vital member of our team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing a comprehensive health management program, ensuring the safety, health, and well-being of both campers and camp staff. As the Camp Nurse, you will be the lead medical professional on staff, and will be responsible for handling any and all medical related situations that may arise, such as allergic reactions or injuries. The most common ailments and injuries include: allergies, colds, coughs, sore throats, stomach pains, sprains, strains, muscle soreness, bruises, cuts, cramps, and fractures. The Camp Nurse will oversee the distribution of camper medications, will treat campers when they are feeling under the weather, and will address health related emergencies. Communication skills are vital in this role, as the Camp Nurse will be responsible for communicating with parents whenever necessary. This position requires a compassionate individual dedicated to creating a safe and enriching environment at Camp Jaycee.
Qualifications, Knowledge, & Experience:
- LVN or RN preferred.
- Must possess current required certification/license.
- Pediatric experience preferred.
- Ability to use good, sound judgment and handle emergency situations.
- Ability to observe camper behavior and assess its appropriateness.
- Ability to utilize appropriate behavior management techniques.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information (HIPAA Standards).
- Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
- Exhibit characteristics of leadership, responsibility, patience, dependability and integrity.
- Ability to work independently with a positive attitude.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms for long periods of time.
- Ability to hear and speak to exchange information.
- Occasional lifting, pulling, climbing, kneeling, crawling and bending.
- Ability to lift or assist campers or staff as needed.
- Ability to work in both an indoor and outdoor environment.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to perform CPR/AED.
