The role of the fraternity house director is a part-time position at the University of Illinois, located in Champaign-Urbana, IL. This position has a start date of August 1, 2024.
This position is responsible for managing the daily operations of the fraternal lodge and activities that will be held there. This position will begin as a part-time role and will likely move to a full-time role as the chapter is revitalized and continues to grow. It is our hope that the person hired into this role will help to create an inclusive, home-like feel for members to feel welcome.
Essential Functions:
· Ensure the lodge and its visitors maintain health, fire and safety protocols to align with the City of Champaign, University of Illinois and the safety guidelines as set down by the Fraternity Building Association.
- Act as point person for applicable University Housing notifications and communications.
- Ensure that all rules/regulations as set down by the Building Association are followed.
- Provide professional and diplomatic interactions with students, parents, alumni, service providers and community resources. In addition, maintain a reciprocal and respectful relationship with the chapter executive board.
- Help to maintain a sense of shared responsibility and community among the membership of the fraternity.
- Be the conduit for follow through on regular cleaning, repair, and maintenance of the chapter fraternal lodge, its furnishings and equipment.
- Attendance at meetings, when invited. Open line of communication with the Building Association. Work with chapter advisory board and alumni board to keep all parties informed of lodge-related activities.
- Oversee the food service program and provide direction in meal planning and special event needs while executing same (Year 2).
- Assistance and oversight of the main alumni events throughout the school year.
- Other duties, responsibilities or activities as deemed necessary.
As the House Director, you will have the following characteristics and/or prior experience with the following:
- Proficient with Microsoft Products (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams), Zoom
- Proactively take charge, assess a situation, identify issues, problem solve
- Ability to manage multiple on-going priorities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – exhibit strong English reading, writing and speaking skills
- Knowledge and proficiency in the operation of a computer, smartphone and general office equipment
- Physical ability to lift up to 30 pounds and maneuver flights of stairs
- Previous property management experience and/or house director experience is a plus
- High School diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred; counseling background a plus
Working Conditions:
- Part-time position at approximately 20 hours per week
