Summary: The Controls Engineer, reporting to the Engineering Manager, is directly responsible for all aspects of PLC and HMI software design and development The ideal candidate will be someone who has several years of programming experience using both Rockwell and Siemens. This role involves both automotive and non-automotive projects for industrial and manufacturing customers.
The Controls Engineer will work with cross-functional groups as well as support other engineering groups to ensure projects are completed on schedule.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Proficiency in hardware design with the ability to translate and fully understand electrical hardware drawings.
- Experience with both Allen Bradley, Rockwell, and Siemens software platforms.
- Design, program, and commission PLC and HMI software to customer specifications.
- Working collaboration with Mechanical Engineers to create industrial equipment control systems.
- Teamwork support with mechanical and electrical build teams during all build phases of the equipment.
- Experience configuring EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, and plant floor systems implementation. (automotive)
- Provide continuing technical support with commissioning and validation of industrial equipment systems at our customer’s location.
- Must be able to travel throughout North America and Canada to customer’s locations. 25-50% of travel is required.
- Follow all Anderson Process safety and quality policies.
- Experience in both Automotive customers and nonautomotive (Industrial customers) with their projects.
Education/Skills/Experience
Required:
- Technical degree in an electrical related field or equivalent experience.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are required to effectively communicate throughout the organization.
- Strong analytical ability to analyze and solve problems.
- Ability to perceive needs and work independently. (critical thinking)
- A strong understanding of mechanical systems and their interaction with controls.
- Understanding of LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) and basic electrical safety procedures.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to be covered by company insurance.
- Ability to travel 25-50% of time.
Preferred:
- Experience with additional software platforms such as Mitsubishi and Omron
- Solid understanding of pneumatic controls
- Understanding for P&ID (piping and instrumentation diagram) and experience in fluid flow or fluid dispensing systems is a plus
