Barista
Duties:
- Prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold beverages, such as coffee and tea
- Take customer orders and provide exceptional customer service
- Operate espresso machines and other equipment to make drinks according to established recipes
- Ensure the quality and consistency of beverages by following standard recipes and procedures
- Handle cash transactions and operate the cash register accurately
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including cleaning equipment, utensils, and counters
- Stock supplies and ingredients as needed
- Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient operation of the coffee shop
Requirements:
- Experience in food service, especially experience as a barista, is preferred
- Knowledge of basic math for cash handling and retail math for inventory management
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with customers
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Strong multitasking skills to handle multiple orders simultaneously
- Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices for proper food handling and preparation
Spike’s is a fun, independently owned, LGBTQ-friendly, neighborhood coffee shop in the heart of the Castro, and our customers are the best. We're looking for a skilled barista with customer-service experience but will train someone who is an otherwise great fit. Candidates must be responsible, attentive, easy to get along with, great at following directions and hard working. They must like to serve, love to make people happy and enjoy working with others.
We're looking for someone to work about 24 hours (4 shifts) per week. Our morning shifts start at 6:30 AM and end at noon; afternoon shifts start at noon and end at 5:30 PM. Starting pay is 18.07/hr, but tips improve this rate significantly. Must be a high school graduate and eligible to work legally in the United States. Must be available to work weekends.
