Open Shifts: 3pm- -11pm Tue-Sat or Sun - Thurs
Summary/Characteristics of Position:
Detention Screener's provide professional screening and case management services for youth presented to the Juvenile Assessment Center (JAC) while determining eligibility for release, diversion programs and/or detainment.
Essential Functions:

Completes substance abuse and mental health screenings using Department approved instruments and forms to determine eligibility for release, diversion programs and/or detainment

Conducts face-to-face interviews with youth and his/her parent(s)/legal guardian(s) to gather information, when available, to assess the youth's service needs

Contacts victim(s), complainants and/or arresting officer to solicit input and recommendations

Completes and furnishes recommendations to the State Attorney's Office utilizing information gathered

Completes admission, detainment and/or non-arrest file packets for the court, the State Attorney, the Department's Circuit Office, the youth's attorney, and the Department's Regional Juvenile Detention Center

Inputs youth data in the Juvenile Justice Information System

Completes Detention Screening Logs

Advises youth of his/her rights

Installs electronic monitoring (EM) equipment utilizing the Department's EM database

Attends court hearings on weekends and holidays, in lieu of the Department, and adhere to a court rotation schedule

Provides case management services that shall include, but not limited to, coordination with Department Juvenile Probation Officers, Detention Service Staff, the courts, and other community-based providers

Attends meetings, trainings and individual development sessions as assigned

Performs diversion related tasks

Perform related work as request/required
Pre-requisite Requirements:

Associate's Degree may substitute for one (1) year of required work experience

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice or social services may substitute for two (2) years of required work experience

Valid Florida Driver's License

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds

Physically able to participate in DJJ-approved crisis intervention curriculum and CPR/First Aid training and able to apply same to work setting
Work Environment:

Performs duties in a secured setting with law enforcement presence

This role routinely uses computer, mobile devices and standard office equipment
Travel: Minimal travel required between ACTS and/or DJJ service locations. This position does not require overnight travel.
