SCHOOL NURSE
Work Location: Roseland School District as assigned
Hours/Work Year: 7.25 Hours/Day; 185 days/year
Responsible to: Site principals
Salary: Placement on Certificated Salary Schedule

DEFINITION:
The School Nurse, under the indirect supervision of the District Superintendent, and direct supervision of the site principal, conducts a health services program for the evaluation, improvement and protection of the health of pupils and school personnel in accordance with State law and District policies and procedures.
JOB DESCRIPTION
1. Assess student health needs using current available records and by performing screening exams (vision, hearing, scoliosis).
2. Assess immunization status of current students; verify that incoming students have completed all required immunizations.
3. Serve as member of an IEP team as needed, performing assessments and conducting parent/guardian interviews. Serve as a case manager as needed.
4. Monitor students with special health care needs; recommending interventions and modifications to educational programs; train staff, counsel and refer parents and/or guardians as needed.
5. Provide lessons in family life and human development appropriate to grade level.
6. Participate in development and delivery of health-related trainings for students and staff. 7. Supervise and monitor student medication and treatment.
8. Instruct students in maintaining or improving their health, in accordance with State health framework.
9. Maintain accurate and current student health records, including confidential list of students with health concerns.
10. Maintain State reports as mandated by law.
11. Supervision of first aid.
12. Provides health related resources to families in need.
13. As needed, provide assistance to the Coordinated Services Team for each site.
14. All other related duties as assigned.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Participates in faculty meetings and on committees as needed.
2. Assists office staff with requisitions for supplies and maintaining required inventory records, and budget.
3. Maintains a comfortable and safe room environment to the extent possible.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS
Work and Educational Experience
Required:
- Valid/current California School Nurse Services Credential
- Valid/current Registered Nurse License
- Valid/current CPR/1st Aid and Audiometry Certification o Valid/current California Driver’s License
- Tuberculosis clearance
- Fingerprint clearance
Desirable: Previous Nurse Experience
Desirable: Bilingual Spanish
Abilities
- Make nursing decisions in an objective and competent manner
- Interact positively with staff, parents and students
- Work with diverse groups of students with special needs
Travel Requirements – A valid California Driver’s license and evidence of appropriate automobile insurance based on DMV regulations may be required. This position requires frequent traveling by employee’s own vehicle and/or by airplane, and sometimes with overnight stays.
