Apples Advance Literacy Reading and Math is a small non-profit start-up. Members on the team may at times wear more than one hat. We are looking for professionals who will assume the primary role for which they are contracted, as well as additional nonprofit duties which include participating in future fundraising activities, volunteering to be involved on a future-to-be board committee, and collectively assisting the Gantwriting team with some support on projects.
Overview: We are seeking a Reading Specialist and Math Special Education Interventionist who has a strong background in teaching students with dyslexia or a Special Education Teacher with the ability to teach K-12 math to students with dyscalculia. If you do not have experience with students who struggle specifically with dyscalculia and are not knowledgeable about student who have dyslexia, please do not respond to this position.
While you do not have to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), many of our students do have an IEP from their current school which may be helpful for your knowledge in the overall learning goals for the student.
Many of your students qualify for the federally funded programs such as Aceohio. In order for parents to receive reimbursement of payment, a detailed invoice is required for each session that you provide intervention which will describe detail one month’s lessons which you provided instruction. A lesson plan is required for the intervention that you will administer.
You should feel confident collaborating with parents and caregivers about the progress their child is making as well as the plan for further learning to meet the child's learning targets. At times you may provide support when parents feels that their child is not making progress and the planning that will be used to meet new short-term targets.
As a professional you must be familiar with research-based strategies for learning, multi-sensory teaching methods, screening and assessment administration and writing reports of students’ strengths and weaknesses after assessments have been completed.
Our children are like all other children. The difference is you will work in small groups of two or three students, but also individually with only one child at a time. Because our parents are required to be present during the entire session, inappropriate discipline is rarely an issue.
Teaching executive function skills is required, as many students who have additional co-morbidities such as ADHD and autism need executive function skills training planned into their lesson at least once per week depending upon the frequency of their schedule.
