Qualifications:
Must be at least 19 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalency certificate (GED) and:
● Sixty semester hours (or 90 quarter hours) of credits from an accredited college or university with six semester or nine quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development, from birth to age six; or
● One year (1560 clock hours) of child development experience in a nursery school, kindergarten, or licensed day care center and 30 semester hours (or 45 quarter hours) of credits from an accredited college or university with six semester or nine quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development, from birth to age six; or
● Completion of credentialing programs approved by the Department in accordance with Appendix G of licensing standards.
● Experience with young children and teaching experience strongly preferred
● Must be able to lift and move with children (up to 40lbs.)
● Ability to demonstrate physical stamina: standing for long periods of time andquickly moving from sitting to standing
● Must be able to respond to emergency situations, moving from sitting to standingand possibly carrying children up to 40lbs.
Job Description:
● Create, learn, understand and follow Rainforest’s creative curriculum
● Meet the emotional, social, physical, and cognitive needs of each student
● Implement activities that correspond with Illinois Early Learning Standards, creativecurriculum and are developmentally appropriate for your age group
● Mentor assistant teachers in the classroom and help them develop positive roles
● Complete assessments and observations of students on an on-going basis to helpprepare for parent-teacher conferences
● Maintain daily communication with parents and maintain confidentiality
● Document ouch/incident reports
● Arrange the classroom environment so the room is age appropriate, safe and followsDCFS licensing standards
● Participate, help prepare for and attend Rainforest’s scheduled art shows
● Attend in-service and staff meetings
● Demonstrate a love for learning and children
● Must have the ability to nurture children, maintain respectful relationships withfamilies and be sensitive to cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
● Register for Gateways to Opportunity and complete required trainings
● Follow DCFS licensing standards and all of Rainforest’s policies and procedures
