JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for driving a Commercial Motor Vehicle in compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations as well as company policies and procedures. Safely load, unload, secure and operate heavy equipment to transport to branches and customer locations in or out of Carolina Handling’s territory. While maintaining a professional image and high levels of customer service at all times.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Must be able to pass and maintain Department of Transportation physical requirements and Class A CDL license.
Minimum 3+ years of Commercial driving experience and customer service experience.
Maintain familiarity and compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations.
Perform required DOT safety inspection on delivery equipment before delivery or pick-ups are performed.
Maintain an electronic daily log in compliance with DOT regulations.
Perform pick-ups and deliveries of material handling equipment to new, existing and potential new customers.
Provide customer assistance in basic equipment operation and familiarization.
Ensure safety, proper operation and load securement of equipment and other cargo at all times, including proper dock procedures.
Assure quality, cleanliness and accuracy of customer equipment deliveries; perform functional testing of equipment for proper operation and safety before loading.
Must obtain appropriate customer signature for all contracts and delivery paperwork.
Report promptly any delays or irregularities effecting the scheduled delivery or return to the Logistics Coordinator.
Responsible for inspection and documentation of any and all damaged or missing equipment on return; review with customer and obtain signature as needed.
Assure truck, trailer and all equipment are properly maintained, in proper working order, and present a professional image at all times.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform (non-technical) minor repairs and adjustments to material handling equipment as necessary.
Perform charger adjustments such as connectors, fuses, line voltage, etc.
Provide information to respective departments of leads or problems that they saw at the time of delivery or pick up.
Provide information to Rental or Service Department of quality assurance.
Perform other duties as assigned by manager/supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to build and maintain effective customer relationships
Excellent communication skills, telephone skills, and customer service skills.
Basic technical skills.
Basic knowledge of material handling equipment operation.
Knowledge and familiarization of DOT regulations.
LEVEL OF AUTHORITY
Has authority to refuse delivery if equipment is not operating properly or there is a safety problem.
Can make fuel purchases or make emergency road repairs.
WORKING CONDITIONS
While performing the duties of this job, the Associate may be on the road for long periods of time and regularly be exposed to outside weather conditions. Additionally, position may require leaving at early hours to accommodate delivery schedules. The Associate is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and equipment, and vibration. The Associate is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals in varying customer locations. The noise level in the work environment is generally in the moderate range. Occasionally, the Associate may be required to wait for long periods of time in order to accommodate dock delivery requirements of customers, this could include occasional overnight travel.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the Associate is regularly required to sit and drive for long periods of time, talk and hear. The Associate is occasionally required to walk, reach with hands and arms, and climb or balance. The Associate must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
