Title: House Director, Indiana University, Bloomington IN
Reports to: Directly to Theta Phi Alpha National Housing Corporation Chairman
Status: Full Time Non-Exempt, Annual
Dates of Employment: July 1, 2024 - June 20, 2025
Notable Dates: Anticipated move-in August 1, 2024 and move-out dates will vary in May 2025
General Summary:
The House Director role is pivotal in the management and operations of managing the Theta Phi Alpha facility. Interfacing with the property manager, food service providers, chapter leadership, members and advisors are pivotal requirements of the role.
Duties & Responsibilities:
University Requirements
- Have (1) a bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in supervision of residential living environments, or (2) be currently enrolled in a graduate program at IU and as applicable, be at least two years removed as an undergraduate member of the organization, or (3) be 30 years of age or older and have a minimum of five years of experience in supervision of residential living environments.
- Work a minimum of 30 hours per week at the chapter facility and be available at the chapter facility during both large university and chapter events including Little 500 and Homecoming.
- Provide support to individual members and chapter leaders, including guiding the housed sorority or fraternity on its emergency plans and processes.
Positional Responsibilities
- Must live in the chapter facility in designated area at all times during the academic year
- Serves as house manager and an advisor, who works not only with the students in the chapter, but with the alumni members, the Office of Student Life and Learning and the University administration and IU facility inspection services.
- Engages in the facilitation of educational programming and the maintenance of an atmosphere within the house that is enjoyable and conducive to the achievement of scholastic objectives.
- Provides onsite advising and support consistent with Theta Phi Alpha policies and procedures
- Provides support to individual members and chapter leadership including guidance on emergency plans and processes and risk management
- Coordinates with the meal service provider
- Interfaces with the property manager and communicates household maintenance needs
- Coordinates with the cleaning staff
- Works with the Theta Phi Alpha National Office staff as needed to ensure proper policies are followed
- Ensures the members living in the house are properly supported by utilizing campus resources (i.e. health services, counseling services, etc.)
- Reports to the national housing corporation
Minimum Requirements:
- Possess knowledge of Greek-lettered organizations including operations and current issues;
- Knowledge of campus resources (i.e. health services, counseling services, etc.);
- PC proficiency and MS Office Skills;
- Excellent organizational skills;
- Ability to handle and keep sensitive and confidential information;
- Ability to effectively prioritize work and manage multiple tasks;
- Ability to work non-traditional hours;
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to diverse groups and people.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions:
- Intermittent physical activity including walking, stair climbing, prolonged sitting, lifting of office supplies, shipping materials, etc.
- May be exposed to minor injuries such as paper cuts.
- May be expected to work evening and/or additional hours as needed
