Canine Therapy Corps provides goal directed animal-assisted therapy services to various Chicago area health and human service organizations. We train, assess and certify volunteers and their dogs to become therapy dog teams and then provide them with a choice of volunteer assignments.
We are looking for people with a passion for our mission - to empower and motivate individuals to improve their physical and psychological health and well being by harnessing the human-animal bond. The populations we serve include those battling substance use disorder, veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, adolescents with histories of trauma, abuse and neglect, children on the autism spectrum, and people of all ages recovering from severe physical injury. Our overarching goal is to help each individual, whatever their needs, achieve the highest quality of life possible.
As a partner and trusted advisor to Canine Therapy Corps, each Director is integral to helping CTCorps fulfill its mission. Directors are fiduciaries who support and sustain CTCorps’ mission and work by providing governance, leadership, and strategic fundraising support. There are four areas of responsibility assumed by Canine Therapy Corps’ Board of Directors, including: 1. Resource Development and Fundraising 2. Oversight and Policy Making 3. Active Participation and Involvement 4. Promoting the Organization
With respect to Resource Development and Fundraising, each Director makes a personal commitment to contribute and/or raise a minimum of $1,500/year in support of Canine Therapy Corps’. This includes a personal gift to the organization of at least $500 (which is inclusive of gala/annual benefit sponsorships).
Directors are required to attend quarterly Board meetings at our facility - 3918 W. Fullerton in Chicago. Remote attendance is available, but in-person attendance is strongly encouraged. Additionally Directors are asked to serve on at least one committee - the number and frequency of committee meetings varies. Overall commitment is approximately 25-30 hours a year.
