As Harris County’s only Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program, Child Advocates mobilizes court appointed volunteers to speak up for abused and neglected children who are lost in the system and guide them into safe environments where they can thrive. Serving in the role of guardian ad litem, our advocates provide recommendations with insights to judges regarding the children’s permanency plans as well as support services needed to recover from the trauma caused by abuse and neglect.
Job Description
Child Advocates is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our development team as a Special Events Manager. This position will be responsible for the planning, organizing, and executing of special events to raise essential funds for our organization. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in event management, strong organizational skills, and the ability to drive successful fundraising initiatives. This position reports to the Development Director.
Essential Job Functions:
- Manage all responsibilities and activities related to budgeting, planning, coordinating, underwriting, production, reporting and follow-up for both internal and external events, specifically, but not limited to: Angels of Hope Luncheon and raffle; Pull for Kids party, clay tournament, and auction; Superhero 5k and 1k Run; and all third-party events.
- Identify and secure sponsors for fundraising events; coordinate event chairs, committees, volunteers, and meetings while building relationships with constituents.
- Coordinate correspondence, including invitations, mailing lists, underwriting, thank you letters, and organize post-event related materials. Identify areas for improvement, growth, and savings for each event.
- Identify new ideas for additional fundraising opportunities and once approved, coordinate all planning activities, develop implementation schedule, and execute.
- Process all reservations, prepare master list for guest check-in, supervise check-ins, and retain lists for reference.
- Train and support Development Coordinator in his/her performance relative to special event support tasks.
- Actively contribute to the overall goal of increasing constituent support of Child Advocates including coordination and solicitation of individuals, organizations, foundations, businesses, and places of worship.
- Actively promote Child Advocates within the community.
- Actively cultivate and steward stakeholders.
- Organize event materials on-site and off-site and follow up to ensure payments are collected.
- Coordinate meetings, including sending notices and preparing meeting agendas.
- Coordinate with Marketing regarding design and printing of invitations, preparing mailing list, providing information for media kits, and other promotional materials as required.
- Other tasks as assigned in support of the organization and mission.
Qualifications
- Minimum of two years special events management experience
- Proven ability to work successfully with Board Committees
- Experience managing, organizing, and working with volunteers
- Direct donor experience and proven success in establishing and cultivating donor relations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word, and Excel
- Experience with Raiser’s Edge or similar donor database software
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and management
- Excellent written, interpersonal, and public speaking skills
- Excellent organizational and project management skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team as well as independently
- Understanding of fundraising principles and donor relations
- Previous experience working with broad scope of constituency groups, including volunteers, board and committee members, donors, and representatives of community organizations and businesses
Work Characteristics
- Must be able to lift and move up to 30 pounds of equipment or supplies
- A valid Texas driver’s license with a clean driving record and auto liability insurance is a prerequisite for employment
- A clean background check is a prerequisite for employment
- Must be available to work evening and weekends as required by fundraising and organizational activities
- Will be required to use own vehicle to travel off-site
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range between $60,000-$65,000
