JOB DESCRIPTION - Environmental Laboratory Analyst (4666)
Location: Houston, TX area
Position Summary:
The Environmental Laboratory Analyst is responsible for analyzing, generating and reporting results for water and wastewater compliance monitoring.
Essential Functions:
- Performing bacteriological examinations of municipal drinking water through approved methodologies.
- Performing testing on wastewater samples and analyzing the data to ensure that the City meets federal, state and city established limits and monitoring requirements.
- Performing analysis on water and wastewater for the purpose of plant function process control.
- Preparing records and reports that comply with the standards of regulatory and enforcement agencies.
- Assists residents in a respectful, positive manner when dealing with customers (internal & external).
- Effectively applying knowledge to solve a range of problems including troubleshooting analytical and sampling equipment.
- Effectively organizing all materials and equipment needed for the task(s).
- Makes decisions regarding the efficient way to perform job responsibilities.
- Assists co-workers in the safe handling of equipment and in other duties, as appropriate.
- Adheres to all safety rules related to the field. Ensures that he/she attends all training sessions regarding safe operations in the field to ensure own personal safety and the safety of co-workers.
- Cross-trained in other functions of the Wastewater Plant and in other areas of the City, as appropriate.
- Initiating and implementing new methods, approaches, or technologies.
- Works cooperatively with others to produce innovative solutions.
- Maintains all required licenses, certifications, etc., as well as, continue to learn new techniques and methodologies related to their field.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, environmental science or related field from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a municipal wastewater facility, commercial laboratory, college laboratory, or industrial pretreatment program.
- Minimum of sixteen (16) college semester credit hours in chemistry. microbiology and/or biology.
- Minimum of four (4) college semester credit hours in general microbiology.
- Minimum of one (1) year basic computer skills (Excel, Microsoft Office, Access).
- TCEQ Class "D" Wastewater Operator License. (please note: must be able to obtain within a year of hire if hired without)
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to maintain a professional manner when dealing with the public and staff.
- Ability to operate computer and automated laboratory equipment in the analysis of water and wastewater samples.
- Ability to maintain, calibrate, and perform minor repairs on laboratory equipment.
- Ability to maintain, use and develop spreadsheet applications of calculating results.
- Ability to understand and carry out SOPs.
- Ability to use various types of office equipment including copy machines, typewriters, computers, fax machines, etc.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, accept and carry out assigned duties with minimal supervision.

Salary:
$19-24/hr depending on experience
