Under broad supervision, provides legal analysis services for a program, division, or department. Assists with complex situations. May serve as lead worker.
Requires expertise in laws, regulations, decisions and case law.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Plans and organizes legal services work to meet the organization's objectives

Reviews and manages requests for information and documents under the Georgia Open Records Act and as part of the public health information portal and provides timely responses to requestors

Reviews documents in response to requests and determines what information must be redacted prior to providing information to requestors

Coordinates the work with other legal and non-legal units

Drafts and reviews proposed legislation and regulations

Manages the assignment and completion of unit workload to meet the legal needs of the agency

Oversees the development of internal procedures and practices of required legal services in the area of assignment

Plans legal strategy and remedy for cases

Plans, assigns, directs and supervises the legal work of a legal staff

Provides advice on legal and operational matters relating to the agency and the legal environment

All other duties as assigned
High school diploma/GED and completion of 90 quarter hours or 60 semester hours in criminal justice or a related field and six (6) years of experience in the related area; or two (2) years of experience required at the lower level Legal Analysis Spec 2 (LEP041) or position equivalent.
Note: An equivalent combination of knowledge, education, job or intern experience, training, or certifications that provides the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted year-over-year.
Preferred Qualifications:
Paralegal Certification or three years experience in a paralegal role.
The Georgia Department of Public Health commissioner and leaders encourage all employees to engage in regular wellness activities and to make lifestyle choices that promote health and well-being.
The use of wellness breaks during the workday is authorized to support this philosophy and assist employees in meeting their wellness goals. A maximum of 30 minutes in a given workday may be used to engage in wellness activities, generally in the form of two 15-minute breaks or one 30-minute break.
Employment Information
All approved teleworking employees must reside within the state of Georgia and depending on the responsibilities of the position, must live within reasonable driving distance of the agency’s primary worksite and be able to report to the office when required.
Current State employees are subject to State Personnel Board rules regarding salary.
DPH accepts educational credentials recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE). DPH will contact educational institutions to verify degree, diploma, licensure, etc.
The candidate selected for this position may be subject to pre-employment drug screening and a criminal background check.
