Community Counseling & Mediation works to improve the lives of at-risk children and families through innovative behavioral health, supportive housing, education, and youth services.
We are looking for a full-time Mentally Ill Chemical Abuse (MICA) Specialist for our supportive housing program, Ruby's Place. The MICA Specialist participates with the onsite Supportive Services Team to provide multidisciplinary intervention and goal-directed planning to assist the residents. This involves meeting with clients regularly via sessions as well as within the therapeutic and educational group setting. The MICA specialist is additionally responsible for providing in-service training to program staff.

Program Introduction:
Ruby’s Place is CCM’s third permanent supportive housing facility in Flatbush. Serving formerly homeless individuals. Composed of 72 units, Ruby’s Place was created to provide stabilization and services designed to specifically improve the physical, social and emotional, intellectual and economic well-being of its residents.
Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in the field of Clinical Social Work/Mental Health Counseling/Psychology/Human Services or Bachelor's Degree plus 2-3 years of related experience
- Minimum of one year of experience in the delivery of community mental health/substance use services
- Certification/ licensure in the field of addiction counseling
- Bilingual preferred (English and Spanish)
Responsibilities:
- Assist clients in reducing/stopping their alcohol and other drug use by identifying and referring clients to appropriate services both within and outside of CCM
- Provide individualized counseling on drug and alcohol addiction and related topics
- Develop and facilitate group counseling sessions on drug and alcohol use
- Work with clients to break through barriers to their goal(s) attainment
- Conduct initial intake as well as regular assessments to determine clients’ alcohol and other drug use
- Triage on-site crises including counseling and remediation referrals to emergency services as needed
- Participate in onsite case conferences to provide holistic, coordinated, and integrated services across providers, if possible and appropriate, the client and family members/close supports
