Summary:
Operates and sets up a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
Competencies:

Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form;

Demonstrates a working understanding of shop math: practical application of fractions, percentages, ratio and proportion, practical algebra, geometric construction, and essentials of trigonometry;

Ability to read and interpret prints;

Ability to take measurements and verify conformance to the print;

Mechanical aptitude, including a basic understanding of the various types of tools used in the machining process;
